The Winter Blues 2021
Featuring Richard Winchester & CBR Autumn Frost
TUESDAY, 9:37 AM :: Vet Check Line in front of location #26
The Ranch's ever distracted mind led them to late registration this year around, coupled with the mess of Alistair and his acquisition of new horses. Yes, yes, the two mares were stunning and hailed to become elite players in their respective fields but the man never announced anything before showing up to the training grounds with a horse of a different colour. Although, Frost did not mind the later start to her day, unlike Hen who worried for everyone's schedules and presentation. She would nag your ear off making sure you knew your routine for the day until you would recite it in your sleep.
When Richard met her in the corner of snoozing and snoring, she was surprised to find him in such an outfit and unfortunately her immediate communication of concern for fashion planted anxiety in Richard's overworked brain. He was sure to make his appearances light and hasty. Damn mare. So judgmental. Richard was amazed she didn't demand to be standing further away while they awaited their slot in the vet check line, attempting to avoid a media scandal. But alas, she patiently stood next to her partner in crime, gazing at the beautiful scenery of her home country. Her companion was soon lost in thought about his upcoming jumping run, anxious to get on the track and get it over with but apprehensive in his attempt. He was unaware of the rising fixation of Frost's mind falling gently in the crisp Canadian air. It was a singular snowflake, crossing her vision and eventually into Richard's view as he turned to his mare.
"Oh gosh, that's beautiful!" Richard whispered, careful not to stir the air and perhaps expose the Snowflake to too much attention. "You know Frost," he spoke her name to call attention; something he didn't always get on first try of just blurting out a story, "they always told us every snowflake that's ever made is unique, like our fingerprint. And you know... you're like that. You're unique Frost."
Rick moved in to pat her neck in a heartfelt manner, offering a bit of warmth in the weather despite her far bigger familiarity with it. Hen appreciated when he stood his ground in opening up to Frost. She was often clouded in her confidence, an unwillingness to show weakness. But this time. This time she accepted it, of course with hesitation but eventually embracing the caring scratches Richard placed on her neck, getting all those good spots she told him about. Rick decided it was a good time, a good day, a good year to speak his truths. "I think your coat is super wonderful, okay? To be honest, I was actually looking into a blue boy. Antarctica . I liked his personality through the whole auction but at the end of it, something called me to you. And I was scared. Anxious. The whole time from meeting you to when I was told I would be taking you home. I think I made the right decision, girl. We were made for each other. And I know we'll get up there. Real damn champions. We're going down in history."
Frost stood still for a moment, looking forward like a stone statue guardian before her eyes darted back to him, and she snorted. Her big head bonked into Richard's noggin, making him immediately chuckle and move to scratch her right cheek. "Admit it, you appreciate me, too!" The spotted gal immediately turned her head away, ignoring his outrageous claims. She would never admit such a thing.
