Description First Year Group Animation Project - for university

I'm not 100% happy with it, but it was my first time doing a non-solo project and I was working with begginers who had no prior animation experience. Saying that, I think they did really well as beginners and produced a pretty good first project!

I though I would upload it none the less to show I am still alive and animating. :-P

*ALSO* The volume is quite low, so you'll need to turn it up a bit

Great job!

Can you tell me how you actually got the music? Was it someone you found who did this, or some people on your university? I would love to get involved in projects like these to create the music but I don't know where to start or to look for people who want music added to their animation. Maybe you have a better insight in this? I'm new to deviantart and it's amazing how much great work is here.

Anyway good job and keep on doing this, you are talented

This was music I used from an existing film. But I now compose my own music for my projects.
However you can advertise your skills as a composer by contacting universities if you want to be involved with composing for student films. Look for film and animation courses, contact the course administrators and give them your details, I'm sure they would put you in touch with anyone needing a composer. For proffesional work, I would recommend registering on sites like ShootingPeople, ProductionBase etc, and list yourself as a composer or response to any adds that are looking for composers etc.

Hope that helps!

All the best

I can't remember exactly what the render time was, but I would make a guess at around 5 mins per frame. Depending on complexity and render passes used in the shot. Also I can't remember what my pc config was as I have changed so many since then. But When buying, make sure you have LOTS of RAM and a FAST CPU, a fairly decent graphics card, and invest in a good screen, not just size but a good colour range (I have a Dell Ultrasharp 24", which is the current industry standard screen for animation work). You need lots of ram so you can have large and complex scene files without having a memory crash, and a fast CPU for fast rendering and general working (The better your CPU the faster you can work). My current settup is 8GB of DDR3 Ram, an I5 quad processor overclocked to 3.9GHz, and the usual unimportant periferals (raided hard drives extra storage drives, AMD graphics card etc)...

..hope this helps, best of luck in pursuing animation

Your graphics card is probably ok, You'll need a lot more ram though and a slightly faster processor. Hard Drive is pretty small too, not that it affects speed, but you will probably generate alot of files when you render (the actual images and animation) and hence run out of space quick.

Ok...how about a core 2 quad processor...will this work as a charm..??and hw much ram do i need for a fast render (and i need real fast render..coz i will render many character on a scene with high textured bod armor)????as i said....i will upgrade my pc soon..so definitely i need sum handful suggestion b4 i choose stuffs.....!!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MattCarter In reply to audioscream [2010-02-09 14:44:32 +0000 UTC]

core 2 quad is ok. But for rendering you want a fast processor. Ram is just for storing last scene in memory so rendering is possible. The more ram you have the more complex stuff you are able to render and the more processing power you have the faster it gets done.
I suggest you read up on it more to find out what is best for you

I have to point out that the character model wasn't as detailed, but since you did this alone, it's pretty understandable. AND, you did a really awesome job on the world design, lighting, and compositing effects. The scenes look fantastic. The film is also quite easy to understand, despite having no dialog. Overall, I'd say it's a fantastic piece. Well done.
