While I love the actors of NuWho (all of them) Tom Baker's version was my first experience of the Doctor, and will probably always be my favorite. During his tenure, Douglas Adams (Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy) was the showrunner (or whatever they called that in the 70s) so there was some excellent writing. Plus he had Leela, Romana (both of them), and Sarah Jane, three of my all time favorite companions. He also has one fo the best quotes.

"You know, the very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common. They don't alters their views to fit the facts, they alter the facts to fit the views, which can be uncomfortable if you happen to be one of the facts that needs altering."
