I think the relation between these three and Norse Mythology was intentional on the part of Robert Jordan
Rand is Tyr - the war god, who sacrificed his position Β of authority and his hand to keep the harbinger of Ragnarok, Fenrir, at bay.
Mat is Wudan - the all-father, who scrificed his eye for wisdom, armed with the spear Gungnir, a spear that never misses its target. Β He is advised by ravens on everything that happens in the worlds.
Perrin is Thor - master of the storm, armed with Mjolnir, the strike of which creates lightning, and thunder is the pounding hooves of the goats pulling his chariot.

You sure can, so long as you mention somewhere in the credits that theΒ art was nspired by Eric de Mander's rendition of the trio.
Thanks!

When did Mat become a Thalmor Wizard?
Jokes aside, great artwork. Great interpretation on the whole Mah'alleinir 'burning' Perrin's foes, though I'm not sure the hammer was perpetually aflame. I also like the whole Crown of Swords thing with Rand.

Thanks much! I was kinda flying blind on this commission, I've never actually read the books.
I *do* know the Thalmor though. Nice! LOL.

from the expressions on their faces
I would say Perrin is thinking "We HAVE to win"
Rand "Time to end this"
Matt "Luck is on our side today"

great! I love that you made the loss of Rand's hand and Mat's eye so conspicuous. I think it's a wonderful rendition of Mat, too ... he looks like he's been roughed up/toughened up by fate but you can see how he might have once come across as boyish.

This is easily the best piece of WoT fanart that I've seen. And I've seen a lot.
This series needs more awesome artists like you contributing.

Awesome picture of the trio :} I like the wolf rising out of the hammer in Perrin's hand.
A note though: the costumes and Callandor seem a little inspired by 's picture "Tarmon Gaidon". Shouldn't there be a credit?

Especially for someone unfamiliar with the books, this is AMAZING. I absolutely love what you did with the wolves in the fire for Perrin's hammer - his crafting of that hammer brings me to tears just thinking about it, and you captured the feel of it perfectly. And the look on Mat's face... just... nailed it just so. The Gambler, to a tee. Time to throw the dice.

Hey, I know these guys! I read a bit of this series. I think I got to book five. They're just a little too long for me. By the time I get to the end, I forget what happened in the beginning! Have you read any of it? This illustration looks great! It's surprising how scarce good artwork is for this series especially considering how popular it is. This is definitely some of the best I've seen! Its even 1000x better than the work that's on the covers of those books. That stuff is worthless. They ought to hire you. Very nice work! Will you be doing more?
