I love it! It's something I don't see (or maybe notice) a lot: there are a lot of things going on but that doesn't bother me at all.

Lovely bright colors. The text causes me to think that the spoon going toward the bandaged mouth could be full of poison. Or rather they are avoiding medicine in the strong desire to die.

Decarabia69 [2008-09-03 13:43:45 +0000 UTC]

I love how this looks so haphazardly fragmented, yet knowing you the colorful collage is carefully contrived. The text and the old computer punch card mix well with the colors, but I love the semi-humanness that the naked figure with the spoon-fed head (as well as the hand) bring into the work.

The neutral brown background suggests that the fragmented colors and the organic elements combine well to center the viewer's focus near the center of the work.

Great work as usual, Matt!

You're welcome.

Actually, I'm surprised that YOU knew what a punchcard was - most people here at dA aren't old enough to know about the Commodore 64, much less the GIGANTIC machines that you communicated with via punchcards!

(apparently my brain has phased out the keyboard and its proper functions.)

Technology with its way of exponentially accelerating interests me.. I find it particularly interesting that something can be created, attain status of a monotonous/ubiquitous task, and be phased out within a generation.. as the rate accelerates I can only wonder how quickly things can become monotonous before being phased out. For example, if we were to guess that in another 5 years cell phones become miniature computers with an array of functions you'd expect on a laptop with phone and internet fluidly integrated, the idea of a cell phone will cease to exist. They lasted--ubiquitously, monotonously--only a couple decades. Much, much quicker than faxes and landlines and so on have become outdated.

Decarabia69 In reply to MattSpire [2008-09-03 20:30:45 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I agree completely and I'm always astounded at how technologies are combined. I watched a comedian recently who marveled at the notion of combining a cell phone with a camera. Although he admitted that it made some sense, he joked that the notion was so obscure it would be like combining a toaster oven with a television (you wouldn't have to go far for a snack).

My own interests in computers included video games (which the Commodore was great at) and I could never have conceived back then that there would be game consoles totally devoted to high resolution games that included CD quality sound and animations that the most powerful computers then were incapable of doing.

Even when I was younger--not long ago, Bush's daddy was on his way out of office--I remember everyone being amazed at the SNES's ability to display 256 colors simultaneously.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Decarabia69 In reply to MattSpire [2008-09-03 20:25:57 +0000 UTC]

That's true! And now, you're nowhere if you don't have a computer that can display MILLIONS! I can still remember when everyone was so enthused that the "new" 3.5 inch floppy could hold 1.4 Megs of data (a VAST improvement over the 5.25 inch floppy) and when CD Write drives cost $1,200! No, people carry tiny flash drives that hold GIGABYTES and CD drives are standard on the cheapest computers!

what's the idea behind this?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MattSpire In reply to Lironada [2008-09-03 13:09:09 +0000 UTC]

the piece--to me--is very organic, but also very synthetic in its colors and shapes, not to mention the surreality, fragmentation, and very inhuman human; it's about the idea of trying to grow for something else, an image, a person, whatever, but it's all just spiraling out of control and into a less complete, more complex person.

thank you for the compliment.

This is VERY cool. I really love all of the colors and how everything is put together in such an abstract way. I lose at figuring out people's artistic concepts unless they're blatantly obvious, so I'm sorry that I can't comment on that. Visually speaking, I love this. I wish some of the text was a bit easier to read, though.

nothing too concrete this time. it's a more generalized statement. the piece--to me--is very organic, but also very synthetic in its colors and shapes, not to mention the surreality, fragmentation, and very inhuman human; it's about the idea of trying to grow for something else, an image, a person, whatever, but it's all just spiraling out of control and into a less complete, more complex person.

this is insane buddy, I love how your compositions look like a collage and the concepts that hide inside each corner of it are very interesting, I feel like it could be some kind anamorphosis kind of art, have you heard about it???

it is some kind of distorted way to project an image which requires the viewer to use special devices or use an specific vantage point to actually reconstitute the image
