Some day I'm going to do astrophotography as a hobby. I have no what specific equipment would be needed, just a nice SLR which can take long exposures

Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!. What was the aperture value and iso if you don't mind me asking? The skies must be really dark there. I'd love that!!

Wonderful shot! I've taken a couple of long exposure star track shots myself (including one of 5009 seconds), but I love the colours you've got in this one. What time of night did you shoot it to get the lighting so good?

This photo is pretty sweet, I'm trying to have a crack at star trails...
Ever since the first couple of weeks of taking an astronomy class, I learned about the celestial shere, and how you can know your latitude on earth by referencing the north star. Since the north star appears towards the horizon, I would estimate that you are quite close to the equator. Aren't I smart?

nice job. i find that star trail photos tend to turn out bland with the digital rebel. you should try it with canon film camera if you can get one. any one will do , really...but get some quality 100 ISO slide film. the key is in the slide film...the shots i took with slide are 100% better than any astro shots i've taken with my drebel. take a look at my gall to see. take care

no worries dude...i recommend Fuji Velvia and Provia. use the 100 ISO so theres minimal grain and make sure its on a night when theres a possiblity to see even the faintest Northern Lights. check out the situation in space at [link] . good luck

I'm diggin the fact that you have buildings in the shot but they are not blown out with lights being on during the whole exposure.
Great shot!
