I believe it was a case of plot induced stupidity. Or it's just Discord being colour blind and not seeing the difference in mane cast's change of colour saturation.

Personally, it made perfect sense to me. He NEVER considered the mane cast a threat, and if he did, only just barely when they could use the Elements on him. So once those were out of the way, he'd thought he'd won and there was no threat at all to him. Same thing happened to Scar from Lion King, once they've won, their ego goes to their head and they view themselves as invinicable.

True, though the last time he saw the Elements Of HArmony used on him, he was sealed up for who knows how long. I think that, combined with the sudden realization he'd been completely wrong about the heroes pretty much stunned him. He was too suprised to do anything, a deer in the headlights pretty much.

I think they sealed him sothey can bring him back eventually. I personally think he was just taken off guard. It was shown with Fluttershy he didn't take things not going to plan well and got angry. When he saw the Elements Of Harmony actually being fired, pretty much meaning his ENTIRE plan had just crumbled before his eyes, it makes sense he'd be completely shocked. But I respect your opinion.
