This is amazing! You have some serious discipline to complete this kind of piece. I wouldn't even know where to start on drawing something like this, it's so complex! You've done an amazing job with not leaving any obvious recurring patterns at all in your background design, yet still keeping the attention primarily on the eyes when so much is going on. How big is this in reality?

I like the layering of your designs, where certain sections feel raised and some embedded. Do you work on different areas then connect them up afterwards or just work around it as you go and expand from your starting point?

I expand out from the starting point - things seem to flow better that way.
