This is amazing! You have some serious discipline to complete this kind of piece. I wouldn't even know where to start on drawing something like this, it's so complex! You've done an amazing job with not leaving any obvious recurring patterns at all in your background design, yet still keeping the attention primarily on the eyes when so much is going on. How big is this in reality?

It's 9x12. Thanks so much my friend, it just started out as an experiment with the face, and then I wanted it to feel like it was evolving or growing from a sort of nature-themed chaos... Honestly I didn't have a solid plan, I just sort of let it go without thinking too hard about it. I overthink a lot of my stuff and it comes out feeling forced or awkward - my doodles are much more natural

I like the layering of your designs, where certain sections feel raised and some embedded. Do you work on different areas then connect them up afterwards or just work around it as you go and expand from your starting point?

I expand out from the starting point - things seem to flow better that way.
