Description

Outdated Refsheet, see here for newer design!

Very first ref-sheet I ever did.

Basic Info: Jane is part of a small crew that is on the constant lookout for adventurous jobs to do. Most of the time, they are asked to transport all kinds of wares across the galaxy. They don't mind if these "wares" may be considered illegal in some parts of the galaxy... infact, they prefer jobs like that since the payment is usually a lot higher. If the money is right, they also accept jobs that involve theft, stealth, trespassing; minor to middle big crimes. Jobs involving assassination, torture, excessive and irrational cruelty of any kind, killing of innocents are not accepted under any circumstances.

The crew is a part of a rather large underground network that is specialized in offering and sharing jobrequests.

Jane is the crew's main pilot, able to fly most spacecrafts of many different manufacturing-styles. But she also is a pretty good alrounder, capable of doing what needs to be done... most of the times, at least.

Name: Jane

Sex: female

Species: Vulnek (heavily derived from fennec foxes)

Age: 27

Height: 187cm (without ears)

Weight: 75 kg

Personality: extrovert, talkative, creative, silly, fun, can handle animals/beasts well, a little naive, a little clumsy, curious, impulsive, uncommon musictaste, can become a little moody if being out of her comfort-zone, loves milkshakes ._.

Physical Identifiers: similar to a fennec fox - large ears, long snout. Does not have a tail. Human-like limbs, 4 fingers and toes. Usually wears hair open, but ties it up to a ponytail if wearing a helmet for example. Average muscular strenght.

Strengths:

+ excellent pilot of many different spaceships and -crafts

+ excellent technological know-how of the ships that she pilots

+ Good social skills

+ High moral

+ uprives when working together in a team, and when getting told what to do

Weaknesses:

- mediocre weapon-handling, prefers only small arms

- can easily get overwhelmed in tight situations, wouldnt make a good leader

Other talents: sensible ears so she can easily eavesdrop on conversations/hear potential threats coming; decent cook ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

-Loves spacecrafts and -ships ever since she was a child

-Loved to tinker around with old scrapped vehicles/mechs/exoskeletons, trying to repair them when she was a teen

-Usually gets amazed by dumb little toys that nobody really needs...

-Likes sturdy/practical but still somewhat "stylish" clothing

Earlier versions of her (outdated hairstyle):

"Idling"

"Explorer"

"Trouble"

"Jane the Smuggler"

Drawings of Jane by others:

Thanks to Illogical-Lynx this ref-sheet comes with aprox. 600% more toes, I also stole (most of) his description-structure for characters. Thanks to SteinWill it comes with 50% more expressions.

And thanks to VarisArt for providing not only feedback but also a nice looking border decoration for the refsheet!

I haven't nailed down how big this "crew" is going to be. Right now, I have Rita as another member aswell as a male lizard guy that is currently in development. My goal is to do some sort of dumb doodles or maybe even short comics around these characters. They are supposed to by funny most of the time, so nothing too serious.

Great effort for a first ref sheet and probably first developped character too? She seems compelling and consistent and there's a lot of detail in your description as well as the picture itself Really good to see you getting on the bandwagon.

Vulnek is a cool name. I think having a species name is rather important for any setting. 187cm is pretty tall for a girl. I do like the ears though, always been a fan of large ears on anthro characters.

The artwork itself is perfect for a sheet like this. I know a lot of people prefer to be given an unshaded reference sheet so they can sample the colours right. Expressions came out well- big ears can be so expressive! The open mouth one worked well, especially the teeth going back into the jaw there. A lot of people, myself included struggle with getting that gumline to look right.

Overall I think this really serves its intended purpose well of giving people something to work from, both in terms of the visual and character design. I'm a little surprised you went with the flat grey background and handwritten text though, but that's just a style choice.
Have you installed any custom fonts? www.dafont.com is great for those.

Thanks, yea she is the first character that I wrote a decent description for at least. I know I could've done more to the background, I tried stuff like random squares, but ended up only having the one for the clothes

Fonts are something I never really used, especially for a picture. I don't know what I will do when I actually draw comics some day. Fonts would probably help then.

It's great you're getting into designing characters and such. It's been something I've always found to be pretty awesome fun. I love hearing about other peoples' ideas too, so feel free to bounce ideas off me!

Dafont is pretty cool. Maybe have a browse around, there's so many cool ones all neatly categorised.
