The best book he ever did visually was Blackhawk in the late 80s. 3 issue miniseries and it was also Ken Bruzenaks career best IMHO. That said, I loved the AF series.

I keep forgetting about that Blackhawk mini. I have to track that down.

If you've never read it through, it's not Chaykin's best writing, but it is quite high quality overall. Visually however, it is the single best work he's done. The coloring and letters are impeccable, and cohere around Chaykin's linework better than almost anything from the period (really, the only better examples I can think of is Elektra: Assassin, Helfer/Sienkiewicz's Shadow run, and Dave McKean's Cages).

Never read McKean's Cages, but the other two are favorites of mine. You've definitely convinced me to track it down.

Cages is one of the most ambitious things I've ever seen. Dense, terse and almost stream of conscious. It's McKeans's own very English, very unstated "Stray Toasters"
