Allegiance: Follower of Dailah

Element: Water
Abilities: Docia has the ability to create and manipulate water, much to her disappointment. Docia belongs to a family of fire shinlai. As a pup, Docia fully expected to be a fire shinlai when her element manifested but she's a genetic throw-back. Her greatest strength with water is controlling snow and ice. Currently her skills are quite underdeveloped, as a result of her fear and lack of confidence. But there is more to this young water shinlai than meets the eye. Unbeknownst to her (and in spite of her apparent ineptitude) Docia has an exceptionally strong link with her element and will eventually learn to master all of water's abilities. However, she is no where near accomplishing this. First, she has to overcome her own insecurities and develop the talents she has rather than trying to fight with and change them.

Personality:
-Positive traits: Curious, Selfless, Kind, Idealist
-Negative traits: Self-Critical, Insecure, Indecisive

At a glance Docia is a polite, soft-spoken shinlai adolescent. She is bright, and an optimist. She loves to find beautiful things, and explore the world around her. She cares deeply about others and sincerely wants to help those she can. The is a thoughtful friend and loyal companion. However, she is hampered by insecurities and can be very critical of herself. She is willing to stand up for others, but rarely stands up for herself. She struggles to accept herself as she is, rather than comparing herself to the ideal picture of who she thinks she should be. The emotion she struggles with the most is the disappointment. If things go wrong, it is hard for her to let go of how things should have gone.

Brief History:
Docia was born on a peaceful night, high in the mountains. Her parents, a pair of fire shinlai, were joyous at her birth. She was their third healthy pup. Her parents belong to the Etheldred Clan, a clan of related shinlai living in the mountains near the human city of Maia. Docia regularly played with her sisters and cousins, scampering across frozen peaks and through clan members' dens alike.

The Etheldred Clan shared a mutually beneficial relationship with the humans. The shinlai helped the humans tame the unforgiving mountain wilderness, and in return the humans provided goods to the shinlai. Rarely were there quarrels between the shinlai and humans in the area, and Docia spent a great time around them. Her mother's strength with fire was rebirth, fire's form of healing. Docia accompanied her mother on weekly trips to Maia to relieve sick and injured. Docia so admired her mother's abilities, she wanted nothing more than to be a healer. She could just imagine it--she would provide warmth and comfort to others in need. She could use her abilities to make a difference in the world around her. She could picture it so clearly.

Docia was a clever pup--a quick learner and eager to please. She learned a great deal from watching and mimicking her elder sisters. Her parents were proud of her and knew that she was developing quickly for her age, but Docia surpised them all by awakening her elment at the young age of fourteen--before her sisters who were a year and a half her senior. Her family was excited for her, and proud to have a pup with such powerful abilities. Admittedly, her sisters were jealous, but they loved their little sister and overcame their jealousy in time. Docia on the other hand was horrified. Though she has promising potential, her abilities were not with fire but with water! (Since awakening her element, Docia has been at odds with herself, and she firmly believes that her talent with water goes against who she is.)

Docia never mentioned her struggle to her family. They seemed so pleased, she worried that sharing her fear would disappoint them. Docia avoided using her element, after its initial awakening, and years passed. As a result, Docia did not develop beyond the raw skill she had as a fourteen year old. She has very little control over water, and much to her dismay, sometimes uses it when she does not intend. In addition to fearing it, Docia sees no value in her talent. Being the only water element, in a family of fire elementals, Docia often suffered from quiet feelings of isolation as a pup.

Docia enjoyed playing with snow, controlling water in its frozen form was eaiser and came more naturally to her, but nevertheless she didn't put much effort into it. Over time, as Docia pondered her element, a thought entered her mind. She must be a balanced shinlai, because there is just no way she is not a fire shinlai. She kept this thought secret, not wanting to explain or admit to her insecurity, and closely studied her sisters' fire abilities desperately hoping that she could figure out a way to force her fire talent to surface.

Like all shinlai, Docia was given a mask when her element manifested itself. The Etheldred Clan has proud tradition of decorating their masks in a specific manner: carved wood, lacquered black then painted with a wide range of bright colors by the owner. Some members of the clan had very ornate, elegant designs while others had simple, appealing designs--nevertheless, they all followed the same pattern. Docia was at a loss. What could she paint on her mask? Most of her clan-mates painted things that were reminiscent of their element, but Docia wanted nothing to do with her element. Unsure of what to do, Docia painted her mask with her favorite color. Her mother reassured her that its perfectly natural to take great care with the design of her first mask, and that many of her relatives had taken years before settling on the final designs for their masks.

Lovingly, Docia's parents attempted to help her daughter develop her abilities, but Docia pretended to fail. When Docia turned nineteen, and was still quite weak with water, her father made a suggestion. Hoping to help his daughter, who he believed was striving to unlock her power rather than hiding from it, he advised her to leave the mountain and find another water shinlai who could tutor her. This gave Docia an idea--and she eagerly agreed with her father.

With her parents' well-wishing and her clan's blessing, Docia descended the mountain and headed off into the world to find a teacher--not a master of water, like her family thought, but a balanced shinlai instead. One she believed could teach her to awaken her sleeping fire abilities.

She left her home heading southeast, gained a human traveling companion (More info to come!), drawn by the flow of human travelers and dreams of a coast she's never seen Docia made her way towards Norport.

Woohoo! This is my shinlai! After the last adoption, the judges gave me permission to create the character I designed in my application. I am so pleased, and I hope you like Docia. I've never been the greatest at designing reference sheets, but I think overall her ref looks good. I look forward to getting to know people in the Shinlai community and hopefully Docia can make some friends. ^u^

Thanks you very much!! I am really happy with her. I thought it would be fun to have a golden shinlai, and then as I worked, her palette got more and more subdued, until it became cream instead of gold.

Ahh cute sweet young Shinlai camped out in Norport! Hopefully I can link Silke up with her at some point c: They'd be about the same age and they'd both have humans they're used to (Silke watching how Docia gets along with humans would seem verrry different from how her humans treat her haha)

Welcome welcome!! She's beautiful and her sheet's east to navigate and her story's so pleasant

Thank you so much! I put a lot of work into her, and I'm still working on her human traveling buddy and his dog. (I actually have a ton of back-story on him, his family, the monastery where they live, the "religion" they preach, and all that jazz... Just got to get it all posted, yeh! *Flails*) But, I am so pleased with her design. I think she is pretty, so I am happy you think so too, and thanks you for the compliment on my ref sheet. It is sort of stupid how long I spent designing the layout. I wanted it to give useful information, but not be too overwhelming, you know?

Silke is a super adorable pup. I think She and Docia could easily become friends, but Docia would be alarmed by Silke's muzzel. The thought of a human forcing a shinlai to keep its mouth shut would be appalling to her. (Yes, she has lived a very sheltered life, and has a lot to learn about the world.) Docia would probably try to steal and hide the muzzle to "help" her friend...Hopefully without too bad of repercussions from Talus or Favour. I'm up for RPing if you like, but I have to admit I am little rusty. ^_^;

Silke took me over half a year to come up with, I feel your pain bruh

Can't wait to see your other guys though! You could use the monthly sketch challenges as an excuse to post quick thoughts c:

I think by the time they meet, Silke wouldn't be quite muzzled, it'll just be a mask with rings on it that could be fastened if she acted up (or so Favour insists, but he thinks he's got a lot more authority than he does haha). Silke and Favour eventually get to be pretty close buddies and most of his snobbery is just a coddled upbringing. Talus is actually pretty good to her but she hates him because he's not gentle with his hands or words (he's just an old mercenary with no finesse, Favour swats her more than Talus does I guarantee it but there's no physical abuse)

If Docia stole it Silke'd lose her mind with grief dsfjklh she modeled it after her mom's and doesn't look at it like bondage. If she didn't know Docia took it, she'd just assume it was because someone knew she was masked with no element yet and took it because she didn't deserve it she's way insecure about being earless and elementless and never earning her mask SHE GETS OVER ALL THIS STUFF I PROMISE but she had a rough start with the flies and the kidnapping. Stockholm syndrome fixes her right up though

aand aahahaha I don't roleplay exactly but maybe we could try somewhere down the line

The silhouette of the man and the dog on Docia's ref sheet are actually them! ^u^ I will probably do something like that, with the monthly challenges. Those are neat.

Ah, Talus and Favour don't sound so bad afterall. The thought of a muzzle would probably still bother Docia a little bit, but she'll learn to deal! However, she feels incredible guilty for thinking of taking Silke's mask, and would like to apologize for any grief the thought of theft might have caused Silke >XD Docia means well! And no worries about the elemental insecurity Silke feels--Docia is insecure too--they can be insecure buddies! They'll start a club together! It will be amazing!

I get that ^u^ Just putting the offer out there.

I'm glad if it the muzzle concept does unsettle her c: It went from a real tying into being a bit of a snide reminder, but she's overcome the issue so it's more of a statement than true subservience

And I'm great with anything you'd want to do with my characters, Docia can try to steal whatever and I'll consider what would happen so it's fun character building for me! None of my guys are perfect flawless creatures, so the more shenanigans they get into the more fun they are

Gotcha, gotcha ^u^

No, I get that, but if Silke was content with her mask Docia wouldn't try to take it. She'd only take it if she sensed that it made Silke unhappy. Would you like to see the WIP for her human friend?

sta.sh/0tg7nb5zbb9 ^u^ His name is Abajian. His father is the one who rebuilt the monastery, and Abajian travels to the valley to preach and buy goods. Abajian is the second son. (His older brother is married and has three children, so that's why Abajian is the one who travels.)  The dog he takes with him is both for protection and companionship. The dog is named Drift, and he's basically a Great Pyrenees.

The monastery serves as both a way-station for mountain travelers, and as the home for the Abajian, and the others in his family who live there. The monastery is positioned atop a hot spring, and the hot water keeps everything running--especially in the long winters. They raise goats for meat, cheese and wool, breed guard dogs, and in the Summer they trade for other supplies they need. I have the whole monastery grounds drawn out, but they're drawn in my sketch book and I have no scanner so I have to redraw them in photoshop.

Sorry, I'm excited about all of the stuff I've planned out, so that's why I kind of barfed it all on you. >XD I could tell you more but I feel like I'm being annoying.
