You could just apply feathers in certain areas for example the back,tail and wings while the rest is scaley.

Btw,the couples requests of yours, I'm redesigning katsuro and I wanted to know if you want the drawing done with the current look he has now or do want to wait for the redesign?

Ok then I'm actually going show a rough sketch of his redesign in a couple days to see what people think and probably get some ideas for a few things especially his clothing.

Katsuro would most likely be impressed and would feel a slightly intimidated for the first time in his life seeing that beast, accept he won't show that sense he is known to hide his emotions pretty well in his expressions, especially when it comes to signs of fear.
