Heeheeeheeeheeeee… What can I say? They’re easier to draw as animals
Now this is kind of a symbolic little drawing. I found that… throughout the series, every time Fry tried to express his love for Leela, he either ended up hurt physically, hurt emotionally, or looking like a total fool… more-so than usual.
So…
The Rose: he dug it up and carried it in his mouth to give to Leela. It has thorns and is causing a sort of physical pain; there is a liiittle bit of blood on the corners of his mouth… It can also be interpreted that he can never even SAY what he wants to say properly.
The Dirt: he is filthy after digging up this rose and he looks kinda foolish; his pose also makes him look rather pathetic…. But still kinda cute…
lol A nice gesture… very well meaning… But he’s blatantly saying, “I love you” in this fashion. And Leela isn’t quite letting it through.

lol I dunno if it's because of the dirt on fry, but Leela kind of stands out because of the lack of shading on her. Probably the dirt lol
