Description This was a figure drawing assignment from earlier this semester. We had to make some kind of narrative scene composed of two different posed our model did on the same page (the seated figure and then the standing one). I spliced in the kneeling boy myself because the composition made no sense without him. And the story goes thusly:

The setting some AU fantasyish incarnation of ancient Rome, the enthroned figure being a sort of half-deified hedonistic twat of an emperor. The kneeling boy is a young captured soldier from some sort of rival Germanic tribe that the empire is currently warring with who's been brought back as a prisoner and so bitterly prostrates himself before the God-emperor who sits in judgment. I guess he'll probably either be lion bait or harem bait, dependent on the king's fancy at the time. And lastly, the stern looking fellow in the background is one of the Emperor's bodyguards/generals/what-have-you.

I lost a bit around the edges during scanning, namely the boy's legs and the top of the king's head, but oh well. ): I rather like this piece, but I doubt I'll end up doing much to finish it.

I notice the comment relating to Stargate, but my first thought looking at that braid was to assume he's never been defeated in battle. (Game of Thrones reference)

Your lines are exquisite, but I do wish you'd color it, maybe some afternoon when you're bored and art-blocked. I love that you chose Rome, because even with full(ish) armor, you still get to draw sexy man-chests. Your emperor here can keep his pretty little blonde thing, I'll be making off with his general, armor-skirt and all. ^_~

Well, apparently, I'm just making all sorts of references to things I know nothing about with this one. XD I was thinking more along the lines of the long hair being a status symbol, since he doesn't really have to do anything that it would get in the way of.

Thank you~! Maybe I can at least ink it in sometime to finish it out. Oh, ancient Roman attire... so very revealing... It's also fun because you get to draw lots of sexy man legs to go with all those bare chests. XD His big manry general was fun to draw.

See, that makes much more sense than not cutting your hair because you're a badass warrior. I would think it would be a liability. Oh, look: swinging ponytail! /yank, slit throat.

Yeah, unless you were fighting an incredibly honorable group of murderers who would find it unethical to strangle you with your own ponytail. I was thinking of it kind of in the same sense that pallor and excess weight used to be symbolic of wealth because they meant you didn't have to go outside and work.

And ugly blackened teeth meant you were rich enough to afford sugar. Amazing how things change.

Haha, I've actually never seen anything of Stargate and my only frame of reference for it is an AU fanfiction my roommate once felt the need to read aloud to me. xD What's the parallel?
