And, ahem, I plead the fifth on the content of this picture. XD

I, actually, would LOVE to write a fanfic where they're facing a peril, his normal powers aren't enough to win the day...but after Yolei gets hurt or something, he decided to unlock the Digimon Emporer side of his personality again and kick some ass. You know, like Dr Insano in Kickassia. That's the only way I could justify his appearance, but it would still be awesome.
VERY nice. I was a bit too young when 02 was first aired (I was, what, about 7, 8ish?), so I didn't find him good looking at the time...but in retrospect...yeah. Nice picture.

xD I was 12 when Digimon 02 was on - exactly Ken's age. :3
And oh, I've been toying around with a Ken-focused fanfic forever, only it's not his Emperor's side that saves the day - it's what's ruining it. It's a few years later and it starts coming back, and he can't figure out why, but he wont tell anyone ELSE that it's happening, cuz he doesn't want them to worry, and, and, and, stuff happens... Davis almost dies.... *sigh* Someday... someday, I'll finally write that story...

No, because, living in England, I can't get it anywhere! Although I do get that the Digimon Emperor was more insane than cheesily evil, and Ken was more humble and modest instead of being obviously smug and condescending. Oh well.
I love that, because it gives us an excuse to actively root for one of them. Let's be honest, most people's favourite character for any given series is rarely the main protagonist; people like side characters and villains. And I'll have to be honest, with Digimon 02, the villains are actually more well developed characters than the main protagonists. That's just...no comment.

xD It's not a matter of "Getting it." It's a matter of going to the right websites. Like animefreak.tv! :3 It's where I watch all my anime that I can't get on Netflix.
Well, a character like Ken is automatically more developed, because he's not a BAD guy - he's the antihero. He switches sides. All that stuff. Inherently, he's a more complex and developed character as a result. If he'd JUST been the Digimon Emperor, he would've been just as 2D as the rest of them - oh, it's a spoiled brat child who takes over the digital world for no real reason. Rather than... oh, he's just trying to escape the pain of his brother, OH, and he has a dark spore that changed his personality and ruined him a bit. ...And then he has a mental breakdown and... and... *squeals happily* LOVE IT!
I've always gone for the mentally-broken antiheroes... it's just what I do. XD

I don't think it's because he was an anti-hero, I think it's because they genuinely tried to develop his character more. Even Oikawa was more well developed than Davis and Yolei were - they were cool, but there wasn't really any depth to them. Hell, Davis is actually more like Mimi than Tai - he never had any problems, and he never let the small things bother him. Oikawa was given his motivations and his backstory was genuinely moving, while with Davis and Yolei...there's nothing I can sympathise with. Yolei's true desire thing was just LAME. Being an only child? That's it?! Compare that with Ken's greatest wish, and you realise how petty and shallow as a character she is. Again, they were pretty cool, but you know there's something wrong when the audience sympathises more with the villains.
I like it when a bad guy is hilariously hammy and over the top, so I like the english dub of the emperor. "hahahaha...HAHAHAHAHAohit'snotthatfunny".

I have a HUGE soft spot for Davis... There's something about him that... I dunno. I really respected him. He was an idiot, but he was a good idiot, and for some reason I really liked him. Yolei kinda bugged me. Cody was kinda bland. TK and Kari were AWESOME. But Davis... he was just good. He was naive and hopeful and believed in the good of everyone. That might be a boring character, but do you know what? In real life, that is a very RARE person. So, I love him.
Yolei is a 13-year-old girl. XD You can't blame her for wanting her family to notice her. Compared to Ken, she's shallow, but again - she's a kid. She's never experienced real loss. Hell, neither have I. I can't even begin to imagine...
And again, I am not gonna call Ken a villain. I wont even call Oikawa a villain. Both of them fall into the "anti-hero" kind of persona. The villain of that whole season was Myotismon - just hidden, but he truly was (Oh, except for Daemon- GOD I wish they'd done more with him!!) Hell, I even hesitate to call Mummymon and Arukenimon villains.None of them are villains like the ones in season 01. Demimon? Elecmon? Myotismon? Piedmon? None of them had any motivation other than their own selfish gains. They were not interesting characters. (Though still badass)
I think it's a real shame that they just let the seasons 1 & 2 storyline end, just like that... they could've done so much more....
xD Oh my god no I love Ken in the English version. Those lines of his while he were emperor were so CAMPY! ...but oh my GOD could he pull off the emotional stuff!! ;____; I know Genesis of Evil by heart....

I like Davis, don't get me wrong - but it's like, REALLY you have no problems? Technically, he had loads of reasons to have problems (Kari doesn't like him, everyone thinks he's a dumbass, there always seems to be someone better than him, his elder sister is damn annoying etc), so the fact that he genuinely doesn't let it bother him...I think they missed a great opportunity for him to get some character development there. Having said that, he was still one of the most badass characters in the series. I DID annoy me that his "charge in ahead of everyone else" attitude always won him the day, since they'd kinda proved with Tai that that's NOT always the way forward - yet it always worked with Davis. So yeah, he was great, but not perfect (and by the way, I LOVE Brian Donnovan's cheesy voice acting )
CODY BORED THE SHIT OUT OF ME. I'm sorry, that really had to be said. Yeah, his character was technically looked into in more detail, but my God was he dull. They REALLY tried to push the whole "he's like an awesomerifical mix between Izzy and Joe!" thing, didn't they? Yes, I could see why he was like Joe (in other words, MUCH to responsible and serious for his own good)...but he was NOTHING like Izzy. Because you know, Izzy was actually interesting. Izzy was easy to relate to, he was bashful and awkward, and yet passionate in everything he did, and he was just so much fun to watch. Cody had NONE of those qualities. He was a smart kid, sure, but that's where the similarity ends. It really angered me actually when they have the other characters ACTUALLY SAY "he's like a mix between Izzy and Joe", because he wasn't. That might have been their intention, but they failed. Hell, Yolei was more like Izzy than Cody was...and on that note, Yolei was nothing like Sora (she was like Mimi...but in a bad way, what with the whole "running away and crying all the time" thing), even though that was probably their intention too.
I sort of count Ken and The Digimon Emperor as two different characters. They're the same guy, yeah, but it's sort of a "Before and After" thing - there's Ken before he turned good, and after. And Oikawa SEEMED, at first, to be one of the hammiest villains ever, but then he became really sympathetic. He WAS a baddie, but he got better, I think, once Myotismon de-possessed him (and something I find really funny in hindsight - doesn't Oikawa look a lot like Tommy Wiseau?) Arukenimon was an obvious villain, but Mummymon wasn't, since his motivations were sympathetic. There'a actually a term which fits all these characters, which is sort of a reverse of an anti-hero: An anti-villain - a villain with heroic goals or qualities. Yeah, I think most of the baddies in 02 were anti-villains. And the villains in Adventure were evil...because they felt like it. I'm sure if they Digidestined sat them down and asked, then we might have gotten an answer, but let's be honest, do we need one? I think they were meant to be evil by nature, as horrible as that sounds - because they were A DEVIL, A VAMPIRE AND A SCARY CLOWN. And an Elvis Monkey. I think you'll agree, that makes them all evil by default.
I think they should show what happened in between 02 and the epilogue. I want to know who Kari got with, I want to know how they came to have their respective jobs, I want to know if they ever had to save the world again...I WANT TO KNOW (although, aside from Matt/Sora and Ken/Yolei, I like the fact that they kept it ambiguous. It means that WE CAN DREAM).
Derek Steven Prince is a MASTER at being both really camp and really emotional when he needs to be. He's all over the Digimon franchise, actually; he was Demidevimon and Piedmon in the first series, Ken and Veemon in the second, Impmon in Tamers...yeah. He's awesome.
(and these comments are getting longer and longer, I'm sorry)

Elvis Monkey... ;____; most terrifying combination of things on the face of the planet....
I'd say it wasn't that Kari didn't LIKE Davis - she just didn't like him the way he liked her. XD And like I said, I have a soft spot for Davis. I'll defend him to the end. Which is crazy, cuz I used to not like him - what happened there? ...actually, I'd probably put up a fight for all the characters, cuz I really do love that show. Some characters were lamer than others, but I couldn't imagine it any other way...
Although, I pretty much agree with all of that with Cody. Although, I dunno if the "Hey, it's Izzy and Joe combined thing" was at all the intent of the Japanese creators - it felt like something the English producers threw in to go "There! Now the stupid kids watching this don't have to think so much!" (They really did do that alot, you had to admit. They really don't give kids enough credit...). However, not gonna lie - Cody was the reason I want to take up Kendo one day. XD
It seemed like Matt/Sora and Ken/Yolei were the only inter-Digidestined marriages (*snort*). I'd imagine the others all married people they met later on. But there was so much they could still do with the series! What if Oikawa's protection over the Digital World began to disappear? What if DAEMON came back for Ken!? WHAT IF DAEMON CAME BACK FOR KEN!?!?!? (you can see I really like that idea, right?). And all that stuff with everyone-else-can-go-to-the-Digital-World-now-too. How do they deal with that? What if people start abusing and destroying the Digital World like they did their own? What if some new bad Digimon appeared and their kids had to take care of them? It's... it's just... there's so much that they could've done with it!!! *sniffle sob*
Oh no, trust me, I know who Derek Stephen Prince is. XD His voice is pretty easy to spot. But I LOVED him as Ken, because it wasn't his overall campy "I'm Devidemimon! BWAHAHAHA" voice (Veemon and Demidevimon were practically identical voices... drove me nuts...), but I could barely believe it when I first found out he was Ken, too. ...so awesome... (I'm a sucker for voice actors... OH MY GOD I GET TO SEE A BUNCH THIS WEEKEND!! Goin' to a comic convention! Wendee Lee (Young TK ) will be there! So will VIC FRICKEN MIGNOGNA, and WIL FREAKING WHEATON! SOOOOOO EXCITED!!!!)

Yeah...the minute I saw MetalEtemon, I just went "OH GOD NO NOT AGAIN." With no punctuation, because I was that annoyed. My lordy, he pissed me off. Do I even need to go into why?
That's kinda what I meant, sorry. Who didn't like Davis? He was cool, but she preferred TK...according to some people (I actually ship both of them, so I avoid the flame wars there). And it WAS a fantastic series, flaws and all. I mean, it's flaws were numerous, I see that now...but it was still the absolute shiz. Hell, I actually LIKE the epilogue!
Which is kinda odd, since they actually managed to slip in a LOT of...adult content, shall we say. The Christmas episode had Davis starting to suggest that they play strip poker (and he wouldn't have gotten away with it if it wasn't for Ken's pesky mother coming in), and Tai actually managed to slip in a joke about The Birds and the Bees. I'm not kidding. So the idea that the dub writers were playing down to us in any way doesn't make sense to me. I think it might have been because they KNEW Cody was bland, so they needed to give you a hint as to the personality he was MEANT to have. And I'm not going to lie, Davis and Tai are the reason I want to buy some steampunk goggles.
Hell, I want to know what happened with Kari getting kidnapped by Cthulu. Seriously. I know that it was a shout-out to H. P. Lovecraft and the cthulu mythos, right down to the ambiguous ending, but it still came the hell out of nowhere, which is a shame. That could have been an AWESOME long-running plot, but instead we got...what we got. I want that dude to try and abduct her again, just to see what happens and where that plot would have gone.
I actually think one of his best Digimon roles was in the third season, as Impmon/Bielzemon. If you've never seen that series, GO WATCH IT. It was directed by the same guy who did the "Kari getting kidnapped by Cthulu" episode, so it was understandably a LOT weirder. And which con would that be? The London MCM Expo is this weekend, but I can't go. Sucks to be me. TT___TT

My main ships are probably Davis/Ken and Tai/Matt. I lean more towards the Kari/TK side, but honestly I'm not huge on either one of them, cuz I like her and TK being BFFs, and I just don't think she and Davis would get along. XD I like drawing ships, but I'm not big on them when I write fanfics, unless they're canon... (i.e. Matt/Sora)
Ooh, and on that note - I don't hate Matt/Sora, since it's canon, but I did really like Tai/Sora. Kinda made me sad when that didn't work out... especially after their fight in the first movie! Bluh...
If you watch the subbed Digimon episodes, you'll figure it out. I didn't realize it either until I compared the two. The dubbed writers added in a LOT of dialogue where there wasn't any before. Like when Davis was climbing down to get to the engine room at Ken's base? Veemon was like "Let me buckle my seat belt!" and Davis was like "AUGH! That's not a seat belt, that's my HAIR!" Not in the original. He just jumped down. It's pretty apparent, in a lot of instances, that American dub people think that if there's ANY silence, kids will lose interest.
But they love slipping in adult humor where they can get away with it, on ANY kids show. Seriously. xD Even shows like Rugrats had their moments of adult humor....
*snaps goggles to head* I'm already way ahead of you!
(...okay, they're quidditch goggles, but they're ALMOST like Tai and Davis's! XD)
I actually figured that Cthulu-guy and Daemon had something to do with one another, or could've even been the same person... I KNOW! So much they left out! I dunno if it was something explored in the video games or the novels or the audio dramas (all in japanese), or what, but that was SERIOUSLY a lost opportunity there!
I watched maybe the first half of the third season of Digimon. I dunno why I stopped - either I lost track or lost interest, I forget. I do remember Leomon dying, and I do remember being REALLY ticked off/sad about that. WHY DOES HE ALWAYS HAVE TO DIE, HUH?!!? Love him... though not as much as I loved Wizardmon...
I actually really liked the concept behind season 4 though. (And the theme song. MAN I loved that theme song!) And, of course... Koichi Minamoto... *swoon* You're not Ken, but damn, you are a fine good substitute.... Didn't get very far in that season, though, and I have no idea what's going on now, but I do know it's still going....
Phoenix Comicon, here in Arizona. xD It's gonna be wicked. I'm so stoked. Sorry you can't go to yours. That's a bummer.
....all this talking about Digimon makes me want to write Digimon fanfiction, or draw Digimon fanart... but I have some Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood to catch up on... so I guess it'll be art (can't write and watch tv at the same time, lol)

I can't draw, so I HAVE to write my ships. I like a lot of the ships, as long as I can find a way for them to make some kind of sense/they seem like they'd be compatible. The weirdest one that I ship is Joe/Izzy, but that's just for fun, mostly (hey, they're both nerds, they can stay in and watch b-movies or something). Then again, I ship both of them with Mimi as well, and then my brain gets kerfuzzled. I don't object to ships, unless I find it morally reprehensible in some way.
Matt and Sora make sense, because look at their crests - LOVE AND FRIENDSHIP. Seriously. The same applies to Ken and Yolei, who's biggest qualities are love, sincerity and kindness. Apparently the dub writers really liked the Tai/Sora ship, so they added some extra dialogue to hint at it...and then realised they'd shot themselves in the foot in season 2, when she got with Matt instead. There are STILL flame wars going on about this, even though the show aired about ten years ago. And by the way...I actually like the idea that Mimi married that friend of hers from America, Michael.
Hell, I love the fact that they didn't cover up the scenes where Tai and Izzy are mesmerised by Angewomon and Ladydevimon's cat fight. As Izzy put it, "I know I shouldn't be watching this, but I can't take my eyes off it!" Yes, Izzy, you're growing up. We understand.
I'm not sure they WERE explained, actually. they were just...THERE. Still an awesome story while they were here.
Oh, Leomon always dies. I'm not kidding, it happens in every series, apparently. If you see Leomon, or any alternate version of Leomon, you know that he's going to die horribly to make the kids sad.
Season 4 was never shown over here, so I've never seen it. Sucks, I know.
I'm actually kinda glad I'm not going, since I've heard Big Brother are turning up to look for new housemates. I'd probably punch them if I saw them, so no thanks.
I'll probably write something Digimon related soon, you'll see.
