I'm sorry if this sucks, I'm sorry about grammatical errors since I didn't use my brain for this story (especially for the first part).

Ever since you were little you've been failing all your grades. Even in preschool [1], although you didn't know why they even graded you.
Over the years your siblings and classmates are always one step ahead of you; getting good graded, friends, rewards and all the good stuff. They had it all, and it was all because they did well in school.
You never really knew why you had such bad grades. I mean, you did your work! Doesn't that count!?
Your parents are always forcing you to study, forcing you to become a lady, forcing you to actually be smart, forcing you this, forcing you that, forcing you everything.
They thought that by forcing you, you would become a confident, and smart lady. But their actions were futile, it just made you more insecure and made you think you were some useless trash who deserved all this pain and suffering.
After that, you were always neglected by your family and some of your classmates since they lost hope in you. You basically you had to take care of yourself from now on, but you always wondered why you always slack of on school work and in life.
Everything was a mystery to you until one day you bumped into an old classmate of yours from grade school while you were on your way to your locker.
"Ahh! I'm sorry, (Y/N)-san. Are you okay?" You heard a boy's high pitched voice say.
You looked up and saw familiar, soft green eyes, and brown hair with an ahoge sticking out. His goofy but concerned expression was concentrated on you and a hue of red appeared on his face.
Naegi Makoto.
You've heard about him. He was one of those regular people that everyone likes because of his cheerful personality and cute face. You also heard that he was smart but very clumsy at times.
You envied him. You envied that fact that people actually like him for himself and not his grades or reputation. You envied him since he was able to move on through life despite stumbling upon bad luck once in a while. You envied how he was always so determined about succeeding something. You envied his normal and cheerful life. But overall, you understood why people admired him.
But still, what motivates him to fight? What motivates him to keep on walking through life? Questions keep pilling up in your head until you gained your consciousness when you saw hand waving in front of you.
"(Y/N)-san? Are you okay?" He asked, the concerned expression still on his face.
"Yeah, I'm okay." You said monotonously.
He gave out an awkward chuckle and scratched his cheek while sweat dropping. He helped you pick up your stuff while picking up his along the way.
When you received your stuff, you started walking away. But you couldn't even take three steps when you heard his voice behind you. "Hey, (Y/N)-san! Are you busy next period?" He asked.
You shook your head, "no, why?"
He looked away while his cheeks were brimming with a huge blush. "I-I was wondering if we could have lunch together, j-just the two of us." He asked.
You thought for a moment. Should you trust him or was this another set up made by your classmates. Ever since they started targeting you for their pranks, you've been very cautious about meeting and talking people. But still, you knew Naegi not the kind to make a fool of people, but just in case, you should keep your guard up.
"Okay, fine." You sighed out.
The smile on his face grew wider and he sprinted away from you when the bell rang.
You stared at his retreating form until you heard a sudden scream in your ear, making you jump in surprise.
"Oi! (L/N)! What do you think you're doing around the halls during class time!"
'Are you freaking kidding me right now. I've been having the worst luck lately."
~~~~
After a class of being scolded by the teacher and people throwing pencils, erasers, and other stuff at you, you met up with Naegi at the school's court yard. You both sat down across from each other at one of the table benches and took out your lunches.
Silence engulfed the whole atmosphere and it was making the situation between you two awkward. Well, it was more awkward for Naegi than for you; you just didn't care.
"So.... H-How are you?" Naegi asked nervously, trying to break the awkward atmosphere. You just shrugged and went back to eating while listening to the quiet wind passing through you.
Naegi thought for a moment and suddenly exclaimed in excitement, "oh! I almost forgot!" He grabbed his bag and took out a bad full of candy wrapped in blue wrappings; he took two out and handed you the other one while keeping the other one for himself. "Here, you can have this." He said.
You inspected the candy for a while and opened it, inside was a purple oval shaped candy, it looked like a cough drop except it was just regular candy. You looked at him and nodded in a sign of thank you.
"Thanks...." You said as you ate the sweet candy in silence.
Silence took over you two again and Naegi started to blush. 'This is very awkward......' He sweat dropped and tried to think of a topic to talk about. He wished Mikan was here to give him some ideas since she legit has a lot of them.
"S-so..... What's your favorite hangout place?..." He asked nervously.
You stopped eating and looked at him with slight interest, Naegi smiled when he found a perfect topic to talk about.
"I really like arcades, especially the ones in amusement parks and malls." You started.
Naegi's happy go lucky smile turned into a gentle one, one that could comfort any animal and any dejected person. "What do you usually do in the arcade. Do you and your friends always hang out there?" He asked.
"Well, when we hang out at the arcade, I would help them with stuff in games that they're confuse about and we would play together and win together."
His smile faltered after hearing your next words.
"Well..... If I had any friends."
Naegi frowned and looked at you with a concerned expression. "W-wait, so you never hung out with any of your friends? Did they not like the arcade or something?"
The blank expression stayed on your face. "It's more like, I've never had any friends."
"W-what!? Not even once!?" Naegi exclaimed.
You nodded, "why? Is something wrong with that?"
"N-no, it's not that...... It's because, since you've never had any friends, don't you get lonely sometimes?" He asked in concern.
"Actually, I'm use to being alone. I've never had company, not once in my entire life." You said matter-of-factly.
Naegi regained his composure and gently grabbed your hands, you tried to pull away lightly but you gave up when you realized that he kept it on a tight grip. He looked at you with concern until he gave you a wide and friendly grin.
"I'll be your friend!"
Naegi couldn't forget the small smile that grew on your face.
~~~~
Everything has been going pretty well in your friendship. You guys would always hang out during lunch, study together (although Naegi did most of the studying), hang out in arcades while playing games together. You even met his sister Komaru, she was like Naegi except with lady parts and taller stature. She would hang with you guys most of the time. There was this one time when she gave you a cute makeover and took picture of his brother blushing in front of a you.
You felt the small void of loneliness and pain inside your soul starting to disappear. Everytime someone tries to let you down, you would hear his voice telling you to 'always stand tall and never give up.'
You never knew having a friend was this exciting, it was almost like every negative thought, and despair you had was starting to fade, and it was being replaced by a shinning hope. You finally found someone who you could be yourself with.
You finally found happiness.
It was lunch time and you two were hanging out at your usual spot in the courtyard. Naegi was talking about how him and Komaru use to always quarrel with their ahoges when they were children.
While you were listening, you started to pack up but then your bag fell and all of your stuff fell off the bag. Naegi stopped talking and started helping you pick up your stuff.
He glanced at the papers and stopped his movement. A frown grew on his face and he grabbed you by your shoulders. "(Y/N)-chan, what is this?" He asked you in a serious tone while holding up your recent test papers; they were all 'D's and 'F's, no 'A's, no 'B's, no 'C's, just the bad grades.
"My grades." You said monotonously.
Naegi looked at the papers with a disappointment look, "(Y/N), your never gonna move on to next year with these grades. How are you gonna graduate high school? How are you gonna get to college? Do you know the consequences of what might happen to you?" He asked in concern.
"I doesn't really matter, people don't really care about what I do. Besides, a trash like me would never succeed in life." You said in boredom. He frowned and sighed in disappointment. "This isn't good (Y/N). You may think that other people don't care, but they really do."
You glared at him in frustration, "you don't know anything, Naegi. You don't know what I've been through, so I suggest you shut up and let me be." You said in a cold tone.
Naegi looked at you in surprise, you've never spoken to him like this before and it slightly scared him. But he knew that you were right, he only knew about the present not the past. But still, whatever happened in (Y/N)'s life that made her this way, and whatever is happening right now, he was definitely going to change it.
"(Y/N)-chan, tonight I'm coming over to your house and help you study for the next test. You have a habit of slacking off so I'm gonna have to be strict with you." Naegi said in a determined tone.
"Wait! But- No buts'! I'm helping you and that's final." He interrupted. He let out a sigh of disappointment, "I'll meet you at the front gate, after school." With that, the bell rang and you both separated ways.
~~~~
"Makoto-kun." Naegi jumped at the sound of your voice, he turned around and saw your usual cold look. He sighed in dejection, grabbed your hand and dragged you out of the school.
"Lead the way (Y/N)-chan." He demanded.
(Y/N) calmly lead the way to her house, she looked normal on the outside but she was mentally panicking on the inside. Negative thoughts started to fill her head and this time, she couldn't hear Naegi's voice encouraging her.
'He'll definitely hate me when he finds out.'
'What if he was faking about this friendship thing all along?'
'Geez, I'm such a trash. I don't deserve someone like Naegi.'
You two arrived at your house and you quietly opened the door. Naegi looked at (Y/N) curiously, curious on why she's suddenly so sneaky. His suspicion increased when she gave him a signal to keep quiet.
His curious thoughts were interrupted when they both heard a cold and disgusted voice behind them.
"Oh, the idiot is back. And who's that kid with you? It's impossible that he's your friend so you better tell me the truth." The voice said. Naegi turned with a surprise expression, surprise from the rude comments that the person her threw at (Y/N), while you just looked at them with your usual dumbfounded expression but this one was filled with annoyance.
"Shut up, Mitsu. Just leave me alone for once." You whispered the last part to yourself. The girl, who Naegi presumed was Mitsu, walked up to (Y/N) and slapped her making her fall and hit the floor, also completely ignoring the fact that Naegi was still present.
"You fcking idiot, you don't have the privilege to talk in this world so shut up and stay down, where you belong." She said, he voice laced with venom. (Y/N) rose and looked as if the slap never happened. "This's my classmate, Naegi." She said bluntly.
Naegi gulped and nodded in greeting. He couldn't move due to the fact on what he just saw.
'What is going on?'
'Does this happen to her all the time!?'
'How come she never talked to me about this?'
'I need to help her.'
Naegi was cut off his thoughts when a he felt a tag on his hand, before he could process what was happening, he was dragged upstairs by (Y/N). They entered her room and she locked the door.
Naegi looked around the room, it was just a simple room nothing extravagant, just normal and clean. He shook his head and snapped out of his trance.
He looked at the (Y/N) who was sitting on one of the chairs near the tables, listening to music. He frowned and walked up to her, taking off one of her earbuds. "(Y/N), you need to focus and study. Come on, let's get started." Naegi said in a serious tone.
(Y/N) sighed in annoyance and started to take out her books while Naegi was preparing the supplies that they needed for studying.
And thus the study session began.
~~~~
Five hours.
It's been five hours but Naegi and (Y/N) haven't made any process. Every time Naegi explains a formula, (Y/N) would just doodle on her notebook, look outside, or play with her fingers. There were some times where she would actually listen but those moments were rare.
Naegi has had enough of (Y/N)'s procrastination and decided to end it. He put his book down and looked at her with a stern expression. "(Y/N), would you please listen. I'm trying to help you here and all you're doing is slacking off." He said in a calm tone.
(Y/N) kept playing with her fingers, not even sparing a glance at him. "I told you it was useless, I don't even know why your trying." She leans back on her seat and sighs in boredom.
"(Y/N), if you just believe in yourself then maybe it will help motivate you on studying. Please (Y/N), I know you can do it!"
"Makoto"
"What?"
"A simple crappy speech won't work on me. All I hear is lies. You don't know what I've been through and helping me is just a waste of time. Just stop already."
"I'm just trying to help. Can't you at least try to work with me here."
"Shut up"
Naegi realized that the situation was going nowhere and started to pack up all his things. "You win this time, but I won't give up. I'll help you as best as I can, I believe in you." With that, he left your house, leaving you alone.
"Boring"
~~~~
The next day of school you stumbled upon a situation you knew would happen.
Naegi was ignoring you.
When you arrived in school, you and him made eye contact and he immediately broke it while walking away after. It surprised you but at the same time you were use to it.
You were use to being neglected.
You were use to losing at everything.
You were use to being alone.
After a lot of experience, you knew that Naegi was annoyed and mad at you. A simple stare was enough to give you enough information on a person. But since this was Naegi, he was way more easier than the other people.
'Of course he's mad, who wouldn't be mad at a piece of trash.'
You passed by the courtyard and went straight to the roof. You opened the door and you suddenly felt the breeze hit you, your hair flowing to the right and the sun's rays flashing upon you.
You looked around, no one seems to be up in the roof right now.
'Lucky me' you slightly smiled and went to go sit down and lean against the fence that was covering the ledge. You sat down and took out your lunch, it looked..... Different for some reason. It had..... Less color and happiness....
You suddenly lost your appetite and put your lunch back in your bag. You took out a bag of candies filled with familiar blue wrappings. Just looking at it made your chest hurt for some reason.
A familiar memory of someone giving you the exact same kind of candy flashed into your mind. You unwrapped the candy and ate the sweet purple hard candy; not noticing the tears coming out of your eyes and a concerned stare pointed at your form.
~~~~
The following day was the same. Cold and judging stares were being sent your way, everyone being close to their group of friends, and Naegi was still ignoring you.
You kept looking forward, you could feel the stares coming in your way.
'Just ignore them, they're not worth it, but if you ever stumble upon bigger trouble, then call me up!' You heard a familiar voice inside your head say. You're chest started to hurt and you could feel a small smile growing on your face.
You arrived at your locker and you immediately spotted a bright lime green post-it note attached to it. 'It must be another note from those stupid pricks.' You thought as you carefully pulled the note off your locker; your eyes widened when you saw the words that were written.
'I hope you have an amazing day, (L/N)-san!'
Your body froze at the words displayed in the paper, you were not expecting this since you were so used to the harsh words that were always sent to you anonymously.
'No.... This must be a trick.' You crumbled up the note and threw it into your locker. 'A trash like me would never receive this kind of note.'
You changed into your indoor shoes and walked your way to class with a 'do not disturb me' aura around you.
It's disappointing how you didn't notice the longing stare that was being sent to you.
~~~~
You didn't know what to do, the messages just kept appearing and it was hard not to notice since the messages were written on bright lime green post-its. The words that were written on them would be implanted on your head, making it hard for you to concentrate on the things your doing.
One thing that cared you was that those words sounded like something a certain person would say and just the thought of them makes you wonder if you would ever find happiness in life.
'You look very pretty today.'
'Good luck on your English test, today!'
'You're very smart and talented, I wish I was like you.'
'Ganbatte, (Y/N)-chan! I believe in you!'
A bunch more messages were printed inside your head, making their marks of remembrance. The more you read these notes, the more you started to realize that someone out there understands you and cares about you.
You were on your way to the roof when you were cut out of your daydream when you accidentally bumped into someone, making you and the person fall down.
"I-I'm sorry" you and the person said at the same time. You both froze from hearing the each other's familiar voices.
You looked up and your eyes widened at the sight of Naegi's olive green orbs. He snapped out of his trance and started helping you pick up his and your stuff.
"Here" he gave you your stuff while giving you a heartwarming smile. He walked away before you could get a peep out of your mouth.
You looked at his retreating form. The warm feeling in your chest was coming back and a smile was coming back to your face.
'He does care.'
While you were putting your stuff back in your bag, you spotted something bright next to it, you picked it up and let out a gentle laugh.
A stack of bright lime green post-it notes.
You decided to keep the stack. I mean, it would give you an excuse to talk Naegi again and maybe stop this childish fight that you guys formed.
~~~~
The bell rang and you immediately bolted out of your seat, eager to get to Naegi. People stared at you in confusion, wondering what you were so excited about, but they decided to ignore it and move on.
You looked around the halls and spotted him walking to the courtyard. You ran as fast as you can and grabbed his hand, dragging him to the way of the rooftop.
"H-huh!?" He exclaimed in surprise; he calmed down when he realized that it was you and decided to let you drag him.
You both arrived at the rooftop. The atmosphere was quite and it wasn't as awkward as the rest. It was actually very comforting.
"Hey" Naegi started.
"So... What are we---!" His sentence was cut off when you tackled him into a hug; he smiled when he saw your smiling face and your tears of happiness.
"T-thank you, M-Makoto." You sniffled out.
Naegi smiled even more and hugged you back, "You're welcome."
That's when you realized that you had someone with you the whole time.

[1] for some reason in the Philippines, they grade us in preschool.
I'm finally done with this story. I realized that I wrote so much when I was in middle of the story.....
I'm sorry if this sucked, this was just a random idea that popped out and the plot was random, so I basically had no idea what I was writing so please do not judge.
But thank you for reading.
