I'm not too satisfied with how the background turned out, but at least it's not a random texture. XD That blurred stuff behind the cat is supposed to be a part of a tree by the way.I hope you enjoy!
Used Photoshop, about 4 hours, and a reference.

Aww, what a cute drawing! The eyes are so expressive which they way they should be on a cat. The lighting is very nice, and the shadows really add great detail and depth to the picture.
I think the background is nice! The colors really compliment the cat, and it always brings your eyes back to the focal point. Have you ever tried using a gradient in a background? They add a smooth range of colors, which can be especially useful for creating the sky. I think it would look interesting if you painted some grass blades or flowers in the foreground, pushing the cat to the mid-ground.
