Meowkin In reply to ??? [2013-01-19 08:31:58 +0000 UTC]

Pahaha if you're untalented then I certainly am- I had no idea what I was doing with this one, just found some online tutorials and got cracking. It took me several months, just because I wasn't working at it most of the time (I'm really lazy too!) but it eventually got done . If you feel like making one, I'd go for it. As I made it our of a pair of tights and yarn it really wasn't that expensive a project. All you need is a wide yarn needle, some scissors and (I used) a hairbrush!

The unitard and wig I bought from Jinx from the CCDB.com.
I made the tail which is getting replaced. And order a new tail and warmers from someone. I am uploding new pictures with the shoes finished.

Aww, thanks! I'm curious about your wigs though, what are they made of?

Facepainting looks so much easier than it actually is then you try it yourself and come out like some crazy clown-cat-lady xD. I'm sure you'd be a lovely Jellicle! I'm anxious to see how your costumes work out too, keep me updated on how they go .

I'd make my own Cats OC's costume, but her's is ridiculously fluffy and would just take waaaay too long!! :L I've finished knitting my legwarmers and done my gloves, I just wish I could find a leotard

Best of luck with your costume too! I bet you'll look wonderful

Mistress-of-Solitude In reply to Meowkin [2012-08-19 00:39:05 +0000 UTC]

You are very welcome, my dear. As for the wigs---they, I believe, are afro-wigs from this party store that sells TONS of costume things (Which is where we've gotten tons of AWESOME things). ((My friend gets the majority of her wigs for cosplaying there)). Then she is teasing the hair bits out---straightening them with her magic---and twisting the bits up and about and out like they're suppose to go....as well as some cutting/syling of the wig itself. ((Then we will spray in some of those Spray-hair-dye things with some colors we need))

Yeah. I've never actually face-painted before. On me or anyone else. My friend has ((Hence why I said she'd be doing the majority of this)) I will most definitely keep the whole DEVIANTART community updated on this awesome thing ((Since me and her are putting it together for mechacon)).

Omg---my OC is like a female version of Tugger (in the look department---with slight alterations))....like if Tugger/Bombalurina had a female kitten.... - -; Still having to work out the whole "Small" mane thing...which will probably end up sewing fuzzies into the black unitard I'm ordering online. (This is the ankle length--mock-neck long sleeve unitards like the CATS movie people used) I bought my legwarmers today as well as my studded cat collar---and my friend has my circular chained belt/wig/and bandana thing to go around my leg. *nods* I still have to order the unitard online, get the YARNS to make our tails (Which are gonna be AWESOME), order the arm-warmers online and yeah.....

THANK YOU SO MUCH. *hugs* I like looking at other cosplayers for inspiration so lemme know how the hunt for the leotard/outfit work out for ya

Meowkin In reply to Mistress-of-Solitude [2012-08-19 01:00:37 +0000 UTC]

Wow, that sounds like a lot of work! A good idea though, I've not seen a method like that before . A female Tugger! I'm impressed, the mane will look so cool are you going to add any of the leopard spots that Tugger has on his arms and chest? I've yet to make my tail too, luckily wool is reasonably cheap so hopefully we won't have to spend too much on those! I always get jealous looking at other peoples' costumes as they're always much better than mine! :L

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Mistress-of-Solitude In reply to Meowkin [2012-08-19 01:14:38 +0000 UTC]

It actually isn't AS much work as I originally figured it was going to be. It could've been a TON of a lot more difficult.

As for a female Tugger---Um, not to the leopard spots. I tossed that idea out the window in order to really simplify the character more. (Rebella is her name) As for the mane--Instead of being a separately constructed piece like his is, we're going for a sleeker female look...so it'll be smaller and actually attached to the unitard itself.

I'm looking forward to the tail---I'm not using "wool" even though I've heard it's probably the best option to do with. *shrugs* I'm just going to go to a craft store and pick out the colors I need and go from there. I already kinda know how I'm going to do it anyways.

Nah---I know that people put TONS more time and effort into their costumes than I have. XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Meowkin In reply to Mistress-of-Solitude [2012-08-19 01:37:30 +0000 UTC]

Ohh I see, it sounds like a good option then! I suppose those spots would be really hard to do with a black leotard base :S I can't wait to see it when it's done though! And sorry I do mean 'yarn' when I say wool, I think we tend to say that in England :L

Costume-wise it's not the time or effort that is the problem for me, it's that I can't afford expensive supplies or materials to make it with the leotard will no doubt be the most expensive piece, and all the extra dye fixatives and sizing removers all just add to the cost. Maybe Victoria would've been a better choice! Haha :L

Mistress-of-Solitude In reply to Meowkin [2012-08-19 02:03:22 +0000 UTC]

Perhaps. She is the easiest to pull off since she is an all white cat---See, my motto is to think cheaply. Not so cheap it looks like garbage but just cheap enough with ENOUGH thought into it that people go "WOW--you spent a lot of money on that didn't you?" And I'll smile knowingly.
Don't give up on your dream/goal. If I had tons of FUNDS ready at hand---I would have the best of the best. ((If I had more time too)) As it is, I don't. I'm also not that willing to commit to it. *shocked* Wait, what? Yeah. ((Ah, thanks for clarifying on that yarn/wool thingy. *laughs* I feel stupid))

Actually, dying a black leotard a bright yellow isn't that hard. Sorta like bleaching it white. Takes a couple of coats of paint though. *shrugs* I just didn't wanna be a female tugger. I wanted to be Rebella, my OWN character. That way I'm not so pressured to have everything exactly like it should be ya know.

Most expensive part of my costume so far? Is going to be that darn Unitard. *laughs* I've got to measure myself to make sure I get the right size. Or else it's onto other options. That's the only real MAJOR money thing I'm going to do so far. I've alloted 200 bucks to making this costume work (I don't expect to USE all 200 dollars but hey). It is what it is. I've never cosplayed before, so CATS seemed like a pretty good idea. ((We're also going to an anime convention so HEY))

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Meowkin In reply to Mistress-of-Solitude [2012-08-19 10:01:28 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, but I suppose at the end you still have to pay for the leotard itself, and the warmers, collar etc. I've been sort of working on this costume on and off for months and I just want to hurry up and get it done, you know what I mean? Not that I have any particular event to wear it to (other than the theatre next year when Cats is on tour ), I'd just like to have it there, haha :L.

And I didn't know it was that easy! But yes I see what you mean, it's far easier and more creative to just take the character as inspiration and play around with the design as much as you please .

Same here, with the only big spending part, my costume up to now has just been loads of yarn! $200 is loads D: hopefully you'll get away with using less than that I'm reluctant to spend that much in one go unless it's on theatre tickets! Haha :L. I hope you have great fun at the convention

Mistress-of-Solitude In reply to Meowkin [2012-08-19 10:30:14 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, but if you wanna LOOK like the character---you gotta buy the essentials. *nods head like a good little kitten) And I've got a dead-line.... > < But perhaps once I'm in basics and out of it---and shipped over-seas somewhere...I can see CATS performed again. Tee-hee. If it starts production again (And I can go dressed up---like a crazy woman).

*laughs* Yeah, the things you find out with lots of SEARCHING on the web for methods of stuff. *nods*

I never thought of $200 being a lot of money. In two weeks I can make up to 400 bucks usually at my job....so.... *shrugs* I save a LOT of money--and am getting into the air force, and will be making loads more money with an actual career...so hmmmm

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Meowkin In reply to Mistress-of-Solitude [2012-08-19 10:45:57 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, you're absolutely right, you can't get away with much alteration if you want to look like the original :S. How long have you still got? Because from what you've said it seems like you're well underway .
It's a lot for me, haha...I live in the middle of the English countryside and can't drive, so getting to places (and jobs) is rather a nuisance as we have no bus stops either. I'm also starting university in a month so I'm meant to be saving for that . Good luck with your career too; the air force!! Wow. Amazing!

Does working in the air force require a lot of preparation?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Mistress-of-Solitude In reply to Meowkin [2012-08-19 11:55:55 +0000 UTC]

Oh. Um. Really depends on how physically in shape you already are. I take Tae Kwon do---so I'm actually pretty okay right now. Just have to stay IN shape.

I was originally 181 pounds and dropped down to like 150 pounds to get into the Air Force. There's some physical things you have to be able to do and PASS, so there is some slight prepping required if you can't already do what they ask of you.
