Oh god, are these stunning. I've read that you don't normally take requests, but how much do you think a Christine or Cosette from Les Mis would cost?

Meowkin In reply to kitkittykats [2013-07-04 06:57:00 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, it depends on the size! These ones are quite tall so they'd cost more, but I've made smaller ones too (this Fantine for example is smaller [link] and the kind of hair these guys have takes such a long time to do! So these ones with felt hair would be cheaper too ([link] . Then there's costumes, that would depend entirely on what you'd like and the complexity/amount of materials it requires so I can't really give you price for those! But as a sort of starting point I'd say about £35 ($53) for these 16.5" ones and £25 ($38) for the 10"-ish ones, then an extra £10 ($15) for yarn hair and clothes would be between £5 and £18 ($7.5 and $27.5) sorry they're so expensive! but if you count up the hours they takes it's still under minimum wage, haha! Thank you for the compliment though.

Is there a way I could buy a Phantom one from you, or an Eponine one if you've made any Les Mis ones? And if so, how much would it cost?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Meowkin In reply to elphabaevitaeponine [2013-01-20 22:15:03 +0000 UTC]

I don't normally do commissions, especially not at the moment because I have so much going on at uni. But I could make you an Eponine if you really want one, bear in mind though it would cost around £45-50 ($70ish) so I can understand if you don't want to go for it. They just take so ridiculously long to make

omg these are too perfect! can you make a meg giry one?
how much would one cost?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Meowkin In reply to mirandaphantom [2012-10-14 20:06:04 +0000 UTC]

Hmm sorry I'm not fond of doing commissions for these as they take too long to ask a reasonable price for . I'm also at university now so I have way less time to spend on them, meaning it would take a horribly long time for me to get one done. However if you truly want a Meg we could maybe work something out .

These are amazing! Especially their expressions and their outfits. You did a fabulous job on the clothing and . . . well, EVERYTHING! (Love Erik's "real" hair. )

I also love that you made the outfits removable. So many people seem to think one must have (make?) separate dolls for each outfit. Or that Erik's mask must be sewn on.

Wonderful, wonderful job.

Thankyou so much! I made them removable because I love the Phantom costumes, maybe if I'm ever feeling suicidal I'll attempt to make their Masquerade costumes...haha. The mask is a bit of nuisance because it's hard to keep in place on round heads like they've got, but it actually stays on pretty well (it's made of papier mache with felt over the top so it's quite hard)

Mominator In reply to Meowkin [2012-09-14 16:55:10 +0000 UTC]

I wondered if you would try your hand at Erik's Red Death costume.

Have you considered using Velcro to help keep Erik's mask on? You could place a (self-adhesive) bit or two of the hooked half on the inside of the mask. I suspect felt would make a decent surface for the little hooks to grab onto, with the added benefit of eventually making that side of Erik's face look a bit rougher.

Meowkin In reply to Mominator [2012-09-14 16:58:51 +0000 UTC]

It actually stays in place pretty well at the moment, because the eye hole sort of latches onto the eye (god that sounds weird) which is sewn on. Though making his Red Death mask...oh Lord, where would I even start? :L

Mominator In reply to Meowkin [2012-09-15 23:54:37 +0000 UTC]

Sorry, I can't come up with anything better than what you did for the half-mask. Just make it cover the entire face.

Isn't that helpful?

If you do a (2004) movie mask you could just do some teeth along the bottom of the cloth portion, and if you do a stage play mask, you could make the lower jaw a separate piece; though I suppose it would be easiest for it to remain stationary.

Meowkin In reply to Mominator [2012-09-16 08:16:32 +0000 UTC]

I won't have time to make that costume for quite a while yet anyway so I have plenty of time to figure something out (and I'm not a fan of the costumes from the movie, save Christine's Think of Me dress even though it makes no sense :L)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Mominator In reply to Meowkin [2012-09-16 10:39:33 +0000 UTC]

Did the dress make no sense because it looked nothing like a "Hannibal" costume? My guess is it was because she performed the aria at a gala, not in the opera itself.

Thought you might find these interesting:

Empress Sisi [link]

Napoleon Bonaparte [link]

Meowkin In reply to Mominator [2012-09-16 11:00:19 +0000 UTC]

Teehee, yeah, but then why would they have all the scenery and horses if it wasn't in the performance? I'm half Austrian so I'm well acquainted with Sissi's story, maybe that's why I'm partial to the dress :L

Mominator In reply to Meowkin [2012-09-16 21:09:17 +0000 UTC]

Who knows? This is Hollywood, after all. Maybe it was quicker to alter that dress for Christine than it was to alter Carlotta's costume. Far less diva screeching involved too, I'll warrant.

I suppose I can see the symbolism in dressing Erik like Napoleon, and perhaps they were in the same frame of mind when they chose that dress for Christine: an emperor and empress of music?

I do love that dress, but I think I like Empress Sisi's better.
