I chose to paint the Harpy Eagle for the Oracle Card Deck as although they aren't as well known as some other eagle species, to me they are both majestic and almost otherworldly looking birds. Eagle's are associated with courage and strength and I hoped to portray them in this piece to fit this symbolism. The reality is that Harpy Eagles are vulnerable globally and listed as critically endangered in most Central American countries. As Habitat destruction is threatening this species, I wanted to highlight them in my work.
On a personal note, I really liked how the Harpy Eagle looks almost like a mythical being such as a griffin!
