Not a strictly accurate representation :S But as you said, you wanted to make the portrayal work in your own way, something in which you succeeded very well imo, I certainly would not be able to draw this, my compliments, it truly is a beautiful piece of work.

Wow, what an incredible image! Though His facial expression takes up very little space in this picture, it is a powerful focal point that shows His stoic determination. I also appreciate that you showed a younger Odin; there aren't enough images like that around. Very well done!

That would be an excellent CD-cover for a Metal band.
But somehow he reminds me of Jesus like the christians like to show him, young and pretty... well, the norse god can also be an attractive god

That was just what I had in mind...
The Northern Gods are not static, they change and evolve in the course of events. I wanted to draw Odin/Woden as a warrior in his prime, seeking knowledge and wisdom, not as the wizened king he is depicted of in most pictures. That I already did

Good to see a younger Odinn on the tree for a change. Though I always imagined him stabbing himself through the chest in self-sacrifice, but this is nicely illustrated! ^_^

Thank you. Yes I thought of that, but then I decided to stick with my original vision. There would be so many possible ways of depicting the scene... and I didn't want to rely too much on the Scandinavian sources alone.

This reminds me of the part in American Gods where Shadow hands from the tree like Odin did. This is really amazing work, detailed and the shading is amazing
