Description
Merrow V3. This version of the "Merrow" is special, because the way the leather resisted the base black alcohol dye created a happy accident, resulting in a mottled appearance. It reminded me of a catfish or a muddy spotted koi, so I accented the darker scales with metallic teal, the lighter areas with pale copper, and added just a bit of teal to the ends of the swirled seaweedy mane. So that dye usually works just fine, but the leather was being ornery? Too bad, because that really is an awesome look, especially for this design. Would probably look pretty cool on a dragon design, too.

I've been using a new type of leather. The veg-tanned hides from Herman Oak tannery is wonderful stuff; easier to carve and shape, but firmer and harder, and it's resistant to alcohol dye especially after I heat and shape it.
It usually means the acrylic paint is needed to make black masks really black, but in this case it looked kind of cool, so I left the base as it was. It happens all the time, but not in a reliably attractive pattern, so I'll just have to wait and see if it happens again.

This one looks a bit more deep-sea than the others - or possibly the kind that prowls muddy river bottoms. I like the colour scheme.

You are amazing. Your masks are amazing. If I ever have enough money, I will throw gobs of it at you and fill an entire room full of your masks, and it will probably creep other people out, but I won't care.
Or maybe I'll just keep saving up for one... one is a good start! Point being: this mask is cool, and you rock.
