EDIT: Repainted version [link]Did this soon after the armorsmith pic. Maybe that's why it headed down the same path of blaaaaaaahhh! I started off somewhat enthusiastically then muddiness got to me and I just wanted to get it done with.
Erm... was supposed to be Ayreon fanart. Specifically for the album(s) The Final experiment. It's a metal opera about scientists from the 21st century(2084) who develop this computer program called 'Time telepathy'. By using this technique they send visions of humanities decline back in time. These 'visions' are recieved by the mind of a blind minstrel Ayreon in the 6th century. And thus Ayreon starts singing about these bleak visions and becomes an outcast etc etc.
I tried to make him look a bit like Arjen Lucassen (The guy behind the awesomeness that is Ayreon). If nothing else the hair sure resembles his... meh.
Edit: Decided to give this pic some limelight? (and put it in the gallery for a while?) I did like how the face/expression and general mood came out?

This is a quality piece of work my friend. The scenery especially brings forth feelings of Arjens work but the fact that you modelled the blind bard on Arjen himself makes it all the more spectacular.
Favourite for sure. To be honest I think this is one of the best pieces of work I have decided to add so far. You should be very proud of yourself.

A friend of mine lately gave me a few albums of the band to listen to but I never knew there was this much backstory to it! I'm lucky I've had this picture in my message center for so long that I can actually relate your descrpition to it XD
You're right, the expression is very well done, it fits the description of what he experiences pretty fine I think.
My crit on this would be... his pose. It's fine overall, but the ...uh... lower (his left, viewer's right) foot seems very posed the way it's bent and only the front part touches the ground. Doesn't look like he puts any weight on it and so the pose looks "posed". XD
Looking a bit closer at it, it does seem that the rock he put this foot on is slightly angled, but still there's something about the whole foot/leg thing that makes it look like I described it earlier.

Yep, All Ayreon albums are concept albums(except maybe, Actual Fantasy?). They all tell a story and have characters. I love all of them to bits

another great pic of the sort would be one of a crazed looking MR.L in his padded cell looking all nutty and super scared maybe with the words "i know the truth is out there" written in blood on one of the walls (is that going overboard?). and yes, ayreon's an abslutely amazing music project.

I don't know why I like this one so much, but I do! It's kind of an understated melancholy atmosphere, quiet and very still. I love his expression, his pose, generally everything. It just... it speaks. I don't know how to say it.

Since you asked for con crit though... Erm. There's something about his hand. It seems to me that he's strumming somewhere beyond the strings. Really tiny issue, though.
