Description Raiden a la Metal Gear Rising; Revengeance. Why take revenge or have vengeance, when you could have REVENGEANCE! Seriously can not wait for this game.

Anyway I've fallen in love with ink after not using it for around 10 years. There's something about the permanence of it. Working with a medium that has consequences. No erasing. No re-dos. The style I've attempted here is like that of Metal Gear artist extraordiniare, Yoji Shinkawa. Don't look him up because you'll quickly realise how poorly I've emulated his style.

I'm going to be selling original ink pieces like this at future cons, starting with Perth Oz Comic Con in March. If you're planning on attending Australian cons in the future and want a commission sorted let me know

Okay, let me start with saying that overall this is a good piece.
As you said in your description you tried to recreate the style of Yoji Shinkawa.
Although very close I think you should have gone for a little more diverse color pallet. I'm not talking about all the colors if the rainbow, but more the blacks that tend to go towards a darker type of green / blueish.
He also tends to use these colors more in his painting, whereas you used it more as line-art.
The hair would have had the most positive effect with that approach.
Don't let this discourage you! You did an awesome job and I merely see these things as pointers if you wish to get closer to his Y. Shinkawa's style.
It's still an awesome piece of art e.deviantart.net/emoticons/w/w… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Wink)"/>

Definitely fair. A good point about the 'line art' approach as well. That's something I became aware of as the piece developed. I was trying to get some more 'painting' in there, but I didn't have the tools. I'm off to the art store soon!

Also a good point about the ink colours. Something for me to consider when I get to the supply store

For me I think the hair was definitely the biggest 'success' on this piece. As I got toward the armor I think I'd lost a bit of the freedom I had started with. Definitely looking forward to exploring this style more in the future, and seeing how it naturally develops.

Thanks for the critique!

You're welcome!

Don't get me wrong on the hair. The flow looks really good!
Y. Shinkawa just tends to fill up the base a bit more, that's why I brought it up

Simplistic, but lovely.

I think you did a great job on it. I would write a critique, but I'm still learning myself so it does not feel right for me to critique.

Critique away I say! I believe that anyone can be qualified to critique. It's not about a persons own skill or style, but whether or not they see something that perhaps could have been done differently. New perspectives are always welcome on my artwork, so if you have anything to share then by all means do so. I can always appreciate a critique.

And so I did, hope it's a bit fair
