They're fun! Here's a synopsis of the game:
The game is about a scientist named Dr. Wily who creates 8 robots calls "Robot Masters" to fight Megaman, who was created by Dr. Light to stop Wily's ambitions for world domination. After defeating a robot master, Megaman recieves it's weapon and can use it himself. Each RM is weak to another RM's weapon, making it easier to defeat them. It's usually obvious who is weak to what (MM2: Woodman is weak to Heatman's weapon. Fire burns wood), but sometimes they trick you (MM1: Iceman is weak to Elecman, not Fireman) After defeating all 8 RMs, you must travel through 4 levels of Wily's Fortress (sometimes you must go through 2 fortresses) and face a boss after each one (the boss is also weak to an RM's weapon, but you don't get it's weapon for defeating it) On the 4th level, you fight the 8 RMs again, but since you have all the weapons, you can manipulate their weaknesses fully. Then, after defeating them again, you face Dr. Wily in one of his machines, usually in 2 or 3 phases, which are also weak to certain weapons.
This is the basic concept of all the games, but sometimes there are little extras put in to spice things up. Though the story is different, the concept holds true for the Megaman X games.

Well, I do have one game simlar to Megaman (at least some people say) and It's Darkwing Duck for the NES.
It may not be as long as how you discribe Megaman, but it's still good ^_^;

BTW, classic Megaman and Megaman X games are on both the NES and SNES. Some additional sidestory installments were made for Gameboy and Gameboy Color.
