It should've happened in the Season 2 Finale, when Sonic and Sally used those "power stones."
I mean, really. Magic stones that made Sonic "superpowered",
and had him fly around, wrecking up Robotnik's command center..
DiC had ONE opportunity to write in Super Sonic. just ONE last time. and, they missed it.
(sigh) Well. At least Sonic X gave us plenty of Super Sonic moments.

To be honest..This is a recolor, of a redrawn screencap image from an episode
of the SatAM cartoon in which Sonic get's an electric shock, and comedically gains a "mohawk."
I added the Super Sonic joke myself as super forms seem to ALWAYS
have hair, or quills standing upright, and really..how DOES one think Sonic's first transformation went??!
I doubt he just went "Super", and flew around like an instant pro.
No. even Michael Jordon had to be terrible on the basketball court on his first day.
So, yes. I do think Sonic's first time as Super Sonic DIDN'T go as perfectly as it does now.
(And, the idea of his quills jutting out too much, AND being stuck that way for awhile seem like a possibility.)
For the record, Sonic NEVER went Super Sonic in any of the classic DiC cartoons.
And, THIS may be why that is.

Oh that's a little... disappointing. It still looks nice though.
We aren't really given backstory on that, are we? Hell we don't even know where he learned to do the whole super transformation thing. He just kinda does it in Sonic 2.
We get Shadow's first time in Sa2 and he looks fine. Though sonic most likely was younger, had less self control and used the negative side of the emeralds power.

Doing it is easy, as I think It's just a natural reaction when the seven emeralds react to one another
(Even Sonic X introduced a "power surge" quirk when CERTAIN emeralds come into contact with each other.)
Transforming is easy to do. It maintaining that super form that is the trick.
After awhile, It became second nature to Sonic, as he grew more experienced with it.
But, presumably on his FIRST change (back when he had no idea how this Super Form thing works)
I imagine he did some things wrong, and probably even powered himself down too early.
As for Shadow, well..Prof. Gerald Robotnik WAS studying the Chaos Emeralds aboard the ARK,
so Shadow probably also studied how super forms worked during that time.
So, he is already 'knowledgeable' about it.
[He just kinda does it in Sonic 2.]
Thing to know about the Genesis Era..There was very little, to NO story in their games.
Heck, the closest thing you got to any "storyline"
was found in the game's instruction manual, and even THOSE had translations errors.
Back in the day, there were no cutscenes, or even dialogue.
You just pressed Start, and plunged right in with no clue on what was going on.

I myself feel that Chaos emeralds work upon emotions extreme emotion cause the emeralds to react and transfer their power to the host.
I know that the genesis games don't have a very deep story. But you'd think it'd get some mention like for example in the instruction manual. but what about the games after that still no explanation (Sa1 tries to give some light upon the chaos emaralds, but not all that much)

To this day people still say that the Chaos Emeralds ripped off the Dragon Balls
(Collect all seven to making something incredible happen..Yeah, I guess I can understand that.)
Indeed, Emotions play a pivotal part in how they react.
as they all run on equal Positive, and Negative polarities..just more "magical"
Obviously, 'Chaos' (and, the Chao) were created in Sonic Adventure
to give SOME backstory to these power items.
But, mostly they are just the usually mcguffins that are SUPPOSE to exist,
and we are expected to not question these magic gems
that can instantly turn you into a "Super Sayan."
You can just imagine the debate..
Sonic Fan: "But, where DID the Chaos Emeralds, Master Emerald, or Powers Rings come fro-"
Another Sonic Fan: "Who CARES where they came from?!, I just WANT 'EM to go "SUPAH SONICK!!"
Some people care to ask..Most could care less.

Guess so, but it would be nice to have an explanation. Not that that will happen now that the games have gone with a more simplistic and comedic style of storytelling.

And, nothing is quite as more comical than Sonic's "Storybook" series,
where Sega thought It'd be great to put Sonic in the fairy tales of Aladdin, and King Arthur.
(What's next?, "Sonic in Wonderland??"
I can just imagine who'd assume the role of 'The Cheshire Cat.')

The storybook series still had a serious tone though.
I could see the casting for Sonic in Wonder somewhat.
Eggman: Chesire cat
Knuckles: The red queen
Silver: the white rabbit
Shadow: Mad hatter?
Rouge: The March Hare?

I guess it was more serious than AoStH was..
Eggman as the Cheshire Cat, huh?
I half expected either Big, or even Blaze.
Rouge seems to fit the role of the Red Queen a bit better.
And, if I were to pick. I'd have Tails and Cream as the Mad Hatter, and March Hare
(with Cheese, the Chao as the "Dormouse.")
But, that's all just me.

Maybe this is why Sega never tried to make a Wonderland spinoff.
They couldn't decide on which characters could fill the roles, properly.
(Hell, if we are being literal, here. MARIA Robotnik better fits the role of 'Alice'
as she is already a pretty blonde girl who dresses in blue.
Makes me wonder if Shadow ever reads that book.)

Wonderland might be a little too nonsensical for a proper Sonic storybook game
It would still need a story which Alice in wonderland doesn't really have.
I always had a feeling Shadow wanted to experience earth for himself and Maria.
So he most likely read books (especially cultural classics)

Yeah, I can see Shadow reading H.G. Wells, or Jules Verne books.
Which only gives Shadow something else that separates him from Sonic.
Apart from being more serious, he is more educated, and cultured.
It's like Sonic is America, and Shadow is "British."
