Done with watercolour in my sketchbook, first painting completed solely with watercolour.Sorry for his tiny wings, oops!

It was intended as an adult bird, but alas, i wasn't really working off my references to the best of my ability, hence the skewed proportions. So, no, it wasnt a baby bird, I just need more practice! haha

What an adorable little bird! Don't worry about the wings. They may not be realistic, but it adds to the notion that it's a baby bird. I love the big belly. I want to keep this little guy as a pet.
Overall, it's rather difficult to critique this as a finished painting, since it appears to be practice for you in your sketchbook. Nothing wrong with that, though! More artists should practice their technique, in my opinion. Hats off to you for doing so.
First of all, I wonder why you decided to do it completely in watercolor, without any other media. Just for practice, I suppose? That's all well and good, but I want you to think about what that does to the painting. There seems to be an ambiguity in the detail. The bottom part of the bird seems to be very painterly, focusing on the forms and shadows. On the bird's head and wings, you seem to be trying to outline the details. Both approaches are fine, but you'll be better off if you choose one or the other. Personally, I prefer what you've done with the feet and belly. The subtle highlights and shadows are beautiful.
On another note, I like your color palette. It's very warm and inviting. And I notice that the cooler colors are in the shadows. It makes me happy when people notice that that's what happens in real life.
Keep going with the watercolors! I predict good work from you in the future.

yes, it was indeed intended as a practice piece: at the moment I'm primarily focusing on improving technique, as opposed to produced completed pieces.
It's completely in watercolour, as I'm still learning to use traditional mediums, and as of yet am not sure which mediums work well with one another. So for now, i work with one medium at a time!

While you're working on watercolors, try working on your outlining technique and getting thinner lines. A small, pointy brush usually does the trick. Even practicing doing cursive lettering this way will help you get a feel for it without you having to worry about the artistic aspects of the process.

Very pretty. LOL I didn't notice the tiny wings before, until you said it, but its still very cute. Love how the sunlight is brushing against his wings and tail.

I've always found I loved to draw birds when I was younger, but sadly I stopped.
