Canon EOS 60DCanon EF 50mm f/1.8
ISO 100, f/3.2, 1/40 sec
Natural light, tripod and a remote shutter.
I'm thinking about reshooting this in the near future, as the focus isn't as sharp as I'd like, so any tips for the next shoot would be great.

The focus looks perfect to me. The only blur is on the end of the hairs, which is not surprising as they are moving andΒ this was shot a 1/40 sec... And as there is movement, maybe do you make a mistake: Maybe the focus is perfect but there is a little movement blur (even on the face): 1/40s isΒ a very slow shutter speed...
The two options I'm thinking aboutΒ are:
Β - increase the light, which would permit to increase the shutter speed, but as it's natural light I don't know if it's possible or not...
Β - increase the ISO (maybe 640 or 800, not muchΒ moreΒ to avoidΒ noise) so you could both increase the aperture (to have more depth of field), and the shutterΒ speed at the same time...

The choices of settings are pretty much intentional - the slow shutter speed to get the movement of the hair, the not so low big aperture to make it easier to get the focus (big apertures are hell to work with on shoots with a lot of movement

I'm going to guess that the blur is due to shutter speed rather than DOF, right? Β I don't know, but I kind of like the feeling of the motion of your hair, just the way it is....

That's partly it, yeah. Plus, I work with autofocus (after a lot of shoots I've found that it's what works for me), and with a lot of movement... It's not the most reliable
