Description One of my tentative photos at capturing winter scenery here in Manitoba. There was a fog in the air that made everything hazy and very calm. I hoped to capture this feeling in this photo.

Winter is great, as long as you can enjoy it while being warm at the same time.

Does anyone here know the latin word for "winter". In Portuguese it's "inverno" so i just Latinized the word into "invernum" for this photo. I might be right...

Manitoba!! Hey..Canada..I'm in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Have you ever been? Nice composition..I like the haze in the background as it makes you wonder what's beyond the gates.

I LOVE winter... invierno, inverno... or however it's called... And must love this picture. There's nothing in this world like being warm while it's snowing outside... it's a really beautiful feeling.

Btw... I know it's a bit (too) late... but, the latin word for winter is "hiems"... if you're still interested... hahaha

Wonderful shot. I love the fog and how lonely and forboding it kind of makes it feel. And yet it still peaks a certain sense of curiosity that makes you want to find out what's behind the gate. Brilliantly done!

This saying good-bye on the edge of the dark
And cold to an orchard so young in the bark
Reminds me of all that can happen to harm
An orchard away at the end of the farm
All winter, cut off by a hill from the house.
I don't want it girdled by rabbit and mouse,
I don't want it dreamily nibbled for browse
By deer, and I don't want it budded by grouse.
(If certain it wouldn't be idle to call
I'd summon grouse, rabbit, and deer to the wall
And warn them away with a stick for a gun.)
I don't want it stirred by the heat of the sun.
(We made it secure against being, I hope,
By setting it out on a northerly slope.)
No orchard's the worse for the wintriest storm;
But one thing about it, it mustn't get warm.
"How often already you've had to be told,
Keep cold, young orchard. Good-bye and keep cold.
Dread fifty above more than fifty below."
-Robert Frost

hahah. i know what you mean though. it does seem like a far-out lonesome place. but if you had the backwards shot of this, you'd see lots of houses less than 50 yards away.

that's so beautiful

initially i thought it was a Photoshop-added glow but it's great that the fog can create that effect. it reminds me of the book The Snow Queen, or the descriptions in Bram Stoker's book Dracula.
