Pencils for the Christmas Variant cover for Shrugged 7. I had fun with the shadows on this one...I don't usually use a ton of shadows in my stuff since I generally like it done with color, but this gave me a good excuse to use them because of the lighting. Hope you like!Related content

I don't know if it's the higher quality/bigger size of this pic or the inks/colours on the final piece, but Ange looks way better in this pencils only scan. She looks more tired/"doped up" in the colour version - almost bored to be there ( [link] ), whereas here, in pencils only, she's involved and enjoying herself, which is - obviously - much better.

Thanks Simon! Because of the fact that its a collaborative effort its hard to have the final artwork always convey what the artist intends. Obviously Jason and Beth are very good at what they do, but I'm a control freak and eventually I want to be responsible for all aspects of my art. Its easier to get the results that you're looking for.

Yea, of course; it's someone else's interpretation of your art, it can never be exactly the same as you intended - two/three different minds think differently, but usually (from what I've seen with comparisons of your pencils and the final artwork) the inks/colours haven't deviated so much from the pencils. Let's just hope it's a one-time thing.

Thanks man! I used to use TONS of black in my work, because I didn't know any good colorists, but I started to use less because of the types of projects I was on. I'm probably going to be using a lot more in the next few projects.

Thanks man! Yeah, there will be a trade of them. I've already done the cover! I've heard they are hard to find...I think thats mostly due to a totally erratic shipping schedule and low print runs. Thats definitely going to change on my next project though. Aspen is going to be guaranteed ontime shipping soon.

thanks for the feedback. I really dig the story and like i told you at sdcc i 100% dig the way you tackled the script. They couldnt have picked a better artist. Im anticipating the next project. I wont type on here what it is but im really excited to see you take on bigger and better things.
