Description
A long overdue addition to my Batman: The Animated Series tribute pieces. This time it's another of the show's more tragic villains, but not quite on the level of Mr. Freeze.
Clayface (played by Ron Pearlman) was originally down on his luck actor Matt Hagan, hoping to get his disfigured face back to normal through Rolan Daggat's special facial clay. Unfortunately, Daggat had Hagan commit a series of crimes in exchange for the clay, which turned out to be super addictive, and when Daggat's men poured several liters of the clay into Hagan's mouth. The resulting overdose turned him into a grotesque form made of clay with shape-shifting abilities.
Honestly couldn't blame Clayface for wanting to eviscerate Daggat for turning him into this, but at the same time he could've used his newfound shape-shifting to reignite his career, if only he had taken time to better control it. Clayface's situation and backstory make him one of the more underrated villains in superhero cartoons.

Clayface is definitely one of my favorite voice roles by Ron Perlman.

He returned in the season 4 episode, Growing Pains, where itβs reviled after the events of Mudslide, his remains float towards a power plant spilling waste in the water. Somehow the chemicals in the waste reform his body
