Description
This is a commissioned piece I did for "Neo York", a collaborative art book project by Freestyle Collective www.freestylecollective.com/ and IdN idnworld.com/books/ , to be released in the next couple of months. Completely done in Corel Painter X. I truly believe that an artwork should speak for itself, it has to work even if the viewer doesn't read an instruction manual or the biography of the artist.Curious about your interpretations of the image!

By the year 3026, Great Danes have been selectively bred to monstrous proportions. Up ahead of these guys, out of view, is the worlds largest dog. He's roughly the size of a Brontosaurus, and his name's Muhammad. And these guys are taking him out for walkies. Guess what's in the bags.

They have hundreds of balloons on their backs... so, they are going into the stratosphere and landing on a city in the clouds.

Let's see. The scene probably depicts a futuristic setting (judging by the nature of the buildings), but at the same time poverty and harshness of life is also present - a cruel weather, and the constructions don't seem especially well ventilated. The cigarette that the foreground figure smokes points to the low living standards, his build and the weight he carries on his back suggest a hard working person, and the number of satchels he attaches to his clothes make it clear that this man is not doing this job for the day, but rather has been doing it for a long time and is quite efficient at it. Another point to notice here is the number of people present in the background, all of which seem to be doing the same thing. My best guess is that this man right here is a lost astronaut, maybe after a mission gone awfully wrong he found himself in this harsh planet, and with no clear way out of this trouble he decided to switch jobs, and be more useful as a human carrier - a job well paid since goods are hard to transfer by vehicles on this icy ground, and no other life forms are up to the challenge.

i always imagine the buildings to be an industrial facility...something to do with air conditioning. i think that the characters are civilian rather than military. I think they're heading somewhere warm because he doesn't look like he's enjoying the weather. the bags look like shopping bags with clothes in, because nothing sharp is poking out of them. and for some reason i don't think they're on planet earth.
i think its really interesting that you used painter X for the whole image. I may re-consider my next purchase.

i would say that it is a futuristic world. it is very cold and the snow on the ground makes it hard for cars or trucks to drive about. these men are the dusbin men from the city. having taken all they can carry they are taking there load to the rubish pile.(the man in the backround on the left is walking past some already dumped rubish) i would say the the shot is facing the city and has its back to the rubbish pile.

it is like a hand made painting..too real..something between a shot- a painting- and a traditional comic with great quality..it is nice to see young people to cooperate with large productions..

dont know why...
but it really has a 12 Monkeys vibe to me for some reason.Like,its the first thing that done outright -smacked- me in the face when i saw that...weird...i barelly saw parts of the movie as well,never the whole thing.
As for my interpret'...a small analysis of the title lays out a story for me like so: some post nuclear city (hence the 'snow',or nuclear winter) or maybe an unearthed city through bombing (because of the architecture,its not completelly 'human' i'd say) is beeing explored by people that just happened to stumble upon it (i use the word stumble because i see no specific gear,just pilled up bags with personal effects) and are now looking for junk to use,a place to sleep etc.
Another interesting point is the quantity of them,so its more akin to a human caravan,but with experience of the world.Why is that?I noticed that a lot of them are sticking to the walls of the superstructure,something only an experienced survivor would do,to always have one or two angles covered by a wall is a tactical solution to have cover and potentially avoid getting jumped.The lead character with the cig' seems to be smiling...Indicator that he knows what he's doing?He's smoking too,a risky move as one can be noticed through the heat signature of the cig,by the smoke...or maybe is the cigarette butts he leaves while walking? Is the caravan set up for an ambush,the point man leading the followers with placed butts littered on the snow?
Its a great piece mate,simple in its build,but with a lot of character and flair in it.Had a lot of fun working out a story to it

Heh, here's the little story I got from looking at this: A war has just ended, leaving the residents of this city to resume their lives. Because of the ash and bitter cold, most left. A fraction of the people who stayed saw this as an opportunity to make a quick buck (especially since technology is already leaping forward, so some of the things left behind are quickly becoming valuable relics). Every day, these mercenaries sweep the city, collecting anything likely they could sell or use.
