Description
I woke up in a brand new day the month of July,
But at the end of the day I was left with tears in my eyes,
A call broke the silence when i’m told in the street do they lie,
The shrill voice in the background when I heard my friend’s cries.

Then all I could think about was why?
I called the second family of the victims to share,
There was only one thing to do and no time to cry,
Telling them news of their fallen son was the hardest thing to bear.

Then off to the hospital with my parents I went,
Though I could not drive because I was too stricken with grief,
Why is this happening to a dear friend of mine and her caring gent?
It was so hard to bear, why was there no relief?

Details developed throughout the night,
All three families distraught and not right.

The hospital gloomy with a feel of unease,
Why is this happening can someone fill us in please?

The only thing popping in my mind,
Was to care for the people who are always so kind.

To care for my friends, their family, my girlfriend, and her family too,
Was the only thing that I thought I could do.

My girlfriend was making sure I would take care of myself,
When the last thing on my mind was my good health.

Her brother in the ICU,
My friend on a hospital bed,
He did the only thing he thought he could do,
Which was to NOT leave her for dead.

A HERO they’re calling him,
He did what he could,
He did what he was taught on a whim,
He did what he thought anyone should.

We had a long road ahead of us though the path was so dim,
The fight for his life,
While the future so grim,
If anyone was going to save her it had to be him.
