I mentioned once that I did a chapter in a fanfic where Maud acts this way, but this pic inspired it's own fanfic solely focused on her, where we see how the close-knit family they once shared quickly fell apart once Pinkie left. We see a wide range of emotions, from her sobbing on her bed to fighting with her family, until she reaches the point she can't take anymore and becomes the suppressed mare we know today in order to function.
It's such a simple pic, but it's so poignant.

I like your work very much and used it in a video for a song I wrote for Maud: youtu.be/_BSyLg4LsUA
If you're not ok with it, please just let me know with a comment to the video!

Oh my gosh! I just did chapter in my fanfic of Maud in which she feels this way, but doesn't tell Pinkie how she really feels because she see's how happy Pinkie is and doesn't want to take that away from here.

This is exactly how I see her too. She might not show it as much, but she really misses her sister. heh

In my story filly Pinkie moves to Ponyville and helps out the Cakes because Sugarcube Corner was about to be shut down since they weren't selling enough, and when Pinkie see's how sad they are she uses her sparkling personality to draw in the needed clientele. In return for her help the Cakes invite Pinkie to stay with them.
Maud comes to visit to see the people who are housing her sister to make sure she's not being abused and because she missed Pinkie. When Pinkie tells her that she's not moving back home Maud sheds a tear without realizing it, and a little later when Mrs. Cake asks her why she doesn't tell Pinkie how she really feels she responds that she saw how happy Pinkie was, and how happy she made others feel.
At the end of the chapter Maud is on the train ride home and writes a poem about her "favorite rock" and how she has to let it grow on it's own. She opens the present that Pinkie gave her, and is delighted to see Boulder, because now she'll always have a piece of her "rock" near her heart.
