Description
Based on a photo taken by Sebastian Ventrone at the fourth of July celebration on the waterfront in Burlington, VT. I actually remember seeing this exact scene in person, although from a different angle, so it was really neat to be able to paint it
Medium: Acrylic paint, 8x10" canvas
Time: 3 hours

This is actually a redone version; I didn't like how the first one came out (because I didn't leave enough space for the water). I'm also glad I redid it because the clouds came out better the second time. Plus, it only took me 2.5 hours to do the first one, so I figured I may as well just do it again, all in one sitting

Also, I am aware that there is technically no such species of animal called a "seagull" (they're all "gulls"), but for alliterative purposes I'll claim artistic license to call it a "seagull." So there!

Incredibly gorgeous! Love the choices of colour, creates quite a beautiful serene effect. Love the silhouettes, though should there be a pink reflection under that boat?

Perhaps I didn't make the shadow of the boat long enough? The pink is reflecting from the sunset, but it shouldn't look as though it's under the boat, but rather on the water just in front of the boat. Or maybe the water right by it shouldn't have pink... I'd have to dig out the original photo to check.
Alright, I think I see the problem. Here is the original photo:

In my painting, the boat is a little too big, so it doesn't look like it's far enough away. Or, I could have painted the sun larger to compensate for the boat and mountains being too thick/large. In addition, the pink light reflects over a larger area, both in the sky and in the water. If I had brought out the pink more, perhaps it'd make more sense why so much pink shows up in the water near the boat. Thank you for bringing it up ^^
