Hi Peter,Β
your skill is ridiculous (in a good way), but I'm sure enough people have told you that.Β
However, in addition to your skill, there are two things I like particularly like about this painting.
First is the "moment": you captured the eagle in the moment he is just about to spread his wings and take off from the branch because he looks as if he has just spotted his prey below.
It's a tension filled moment, and a nice break fromΒ paintings of eagles in profile and perched nonchalantly on a branch.Β
(Also the eagle's right wing on the left side of the painting, like a row of dark steel blades...)
Second is your background: it's what I like to call controlled chaos, and it's so well done that had your eagle been just a little less well executed, the background could've stolen the limelight--
--the bits of intricate intertwining branch like patterns dissolving into flecks of white, the hints of yellows and oranges mirroring that on the eagle's--
it's dynamic and mysterious and though I don't know exactly what's being depicted,Β
I still get the sense of trees and foliage and a hanging cliff with roots dangling on the edge.Β
And in the process of writing all of that, it just occurred to me that your use of white space is equally effective.Β
So many things to like about this piece.Β
So glad I stumbled upon it.Β
