I see that the conifers in these mountains are under attack, as are those in my park here in Tennessee. I see lots of denuded trunks on the range, now dead from the pilfering of the Woolly Adelgids, tiny insects which feed off the sap in the needles, killing the trees slowly but surely. Nasty little critters. They cause the trees to starve to death from thirst. That's the bad news. The good news is that the Red Norwegian Firs are starting to colonize the woods once ruled by the Frazier Firs. More good news is that rangers are starting to spot new Frazier Firs which appear to be resistant to the invasion.

People destroy the earth, let's not blame nature for it.

People brought invasive species into the woods inside stuff like firewood for camping, etc. These critters, once loosed into an environment lacking natural predators to keep them in check, could now multiply and take over. We do not allow people to bring firewood into the park for this reason. I am thinking the same thing has happened in your mountains. The insects invading my park actually came from China. In other words, tourists were careless, and as a result, upended Nature... Silly humans... Poor trees... Such is way of world all over...
