A bit of fanart/gift art for the lovely, Miss. Ariel. <3
She's helped me get through quite a bit of stuff, and I owe her some Anzu love. :] Go check out her artwork, and her work for her original WIP graphic novel, Kako no Kouri ("The Ice of the Past").

This is my interpretation of one of the main characters of her story, Anzu, a yuki onna. A yuki onna is a demoness or succubus in Japanese folklore--she lurks in the snow and lures unsuspecting victims with her beauty and sexuality. A yuki-onna, much like other creatures in Japanese folklore, have many backgrounds and stories, and is neither "evil" or "good".

A yuki onna is often described in legends as having long hair, very pale skin, and is incredibly beautiful. She lures men with her looks and walks the snow without leaving footprints--she is often even described as not having feet or legs. She is also described as wearing a white kimono or is sometimes nude.

The Japanese hiragana in the background is actually an excerpt from a children's song called "Fuyu no Uta" (Winter's Song) and the lyrics I've put in here roughly translates to "The snow falls hard, the hail falls hard! It's still falling and falling, never stopping."

I used a children's song for it's simplicity and because of the character's deep connection to children. I figure sometimes she may hum it when she's lonely. c:

The blood on her kimono represents her natural demonic nature/bloodthirst. I hid parts of her breasts and darkened the lower areas of her body to give a sense of hidden sexuality/prowess. Her hair is a similar color to an albino individual's hair color, she isn't actually a full blonde--just needed a way to shade it without it blending in too much with the background.

Her makeup is also something quite traditional, and since this story takes place around the feudal era (or even before?) in Japan, I gave her the high-drawn eyebrows and the red dotting on the forehead to give her a sense of regality.

Used a bit more editing in the coloring/background, quite happy with this piece. :]
