Description Hey Guys,

So I’ve been working on a new hard surface DVD with Eat3d covering techniques in Zbrush R2.

For the character I took an existing female character, modified the proportions and face, and then designed the armor on top of that.

The DVD covers concepting, final model, detailing, cloth sim, rendering with vray, and tweaking in Photoshop. Everything is in Zbrush except for cloth sim and rendering clays.

The DVD can be found here:

These renders were done in 3ds max with Vray. I made them wallpaper sized for those who wanted

For those curious here’s my hardware:

Gfx Card: Quadro 6000
Proc: i7 2600k

Wow nice work mike .. purchased the ZBrush Hard Surface Techniques 2, and been following your tutorials .i do however have a question though . in the concepting part , you mentioned that you used a duplicate sub tool of the female model and run dynamesh on it ...i kinda know what you mean but have no idea how to do this. am learning brush on my own and so far i have found your Dvd to be the best out there .thanks

Thanks so much for the nice words! I believe what you're referring to is when I'm concepting and I want to try something new, I'll go to Tool>SubTool>Duplicate. Then I'll hide my old concept mesh, and work on the new one. This is to try out new things, without the fear of going in the wrong direction, because you always have a backup subtool. Hope that helps

I cannot help but be reminded of the Locust Queen from the francise "Gears of War" when looking at this particulair artwork. Is it by any chance that it has inspired you in some way, shape or form?

Hey dude actually someone else said that too. I had to look up the character cause I'd never seen it before I don't play GOW. For this character I was thinking mainly about anime characters with headresses and in particular I was thinking a lot about Evangelion plug suits.

Simply amazing. One question...when concepting how do you go about deciding where and what to add on the character? Do you just work with shape and add detail or is it something else?
