Great piece.
One Question, though:
Why has Mystique (covered all over in natural blue skin as she is) pink gums?
Strikes me as extremely odd.
I don't know why, but I would have envisioned her with pale/light blue or even white gums, not the strikingly "normal" colour.
It's for this small detail that I can't quite shake the feeling of a spray-painted "ordinary girl" (with big guns. Okay. That's not quite so ordinary. Granted.)

@CharmedFamiliar: I actually like the understated blue skin tone. Although I do agree that a bit of the warmer color showing up on the skin would make the light from the backlight/fire more realistic.

Only thing that slightly bothers me is that the skin color is maybe a bit too flat and not vivid enough. It doesn't really show a reaction to the explosion, by that mean there's no lighting on her skin reflecting the fiery background (needs a smidgen of warmer coloring here and there?). It's like she was having a scene in front of a green screen. There is lighting on her but it's more like...as if someone had taken a shot of her with flash on. I dunno...I'm so not good at critiquing xD
Anyways, that's some awesome job done right there! It's a beautiful action filled piece. I can only hope to one day be able to draw or paint things like that

I am big fan of his and their work, and I love this illustration, I never worked with this type of material but I think the fantastic, and their pictures have been a great inspiration to me! Congratulations once more!

Utterly superb! An incredibly smooth, pin-point perfect proportional image....awesome! My only nit-pick (although not something quite in-depth enough for an official Critique!) is that in order to link the charachter to the background, you'd need to give her a flame-coloured highlight around her edges from the where the explosion would back-light her. Having got the reflections on her latex so painstakingly correct, it seems a shame not to add this detail too. But that's as much a stylist choice as a technical one. Really enjoy this....so pretty!

Did acrylic when i first learned to paint. Imitated Sorayama's tutorials in the back of his books. Now I like watercolor for the ways you can play with color. Might be incorporating more gouache in the future.

This particular piece is acrylic and applied in thin layers and airbrush to soften the brushstrokes.

Whoa, easy tiger! I'm no speed demom. These are paintings from my career since 2000, so they've just been adding up. In fact, I should probably slow done to keep a better pace of having new stuff to show.
