Wow! Of all the Mystique covers, this is one of my favorites! I had no idea that you were on DA though. Gotta go look at more of your stuff.
Keep up the seriously awesome work!

Great piece.
One Question, though:
Why has Mystique (covered all over in natural blue skin as she is) pink gums?
Strikes me as extremely odd.
I don't know why, but I would have envisioned her with pale/light blue or even white gums, not the strikingly "normal" colour.
It's for this small detail that I can't quite shake the feeling of a spray-painted "ordinary girl" (with big guns. Okay. That's not quite so ordinary. Granted.)

Your work continues to amaze me. The leather is PERFECT and believable.
@CharmedFamiliar: I actually like the understated blue skin tone. Although I do agree that a bit of the warmer color showing up on the skin would make the light from the backlight/fire more realistic.

Traditional work? You're insane mike! The leather pants must have taken quite some time to do the traditional way.

Had photo ref since that's exactly what my model was wearing. Even had twin desert eagles(airsoft) for her to hold.

how do you decide which will be acrylic vs water color? both mediums you seem to have a pretty great handle on

Did acrylic when i first learned to paint. Imitated Sorayama's tutorials in the back of his books. Now I like watercolor for the ways you can play with color. Might be incorporating more gouache in the future.

How the heck do you get such vibrant colours and such vibrant life out of your paintings? I'm definitely awestruck.

This particular piece is acrylic and applied in thin layers and airbrush to soften the brushstrokes.

Whoa, easy tiger! I'm no speed demom. These are paintings from my career since 2000, so they've just been adding up. In fact, I should probably slow done to keep a better pace of having new stuff to show.
