Description
Smoke rises up in central Manhattan. People run for safety, cars are toppled over. A rampage is going down. And it is mine! With a swing of my big brawny arm I send that puny boyscout with the red shades flying. I watch as the leader of the X-Men crashes into a faroff wall and collapses to the floor, panting in pain. I can't help but laugh at his pathetic struggles and shout with glee:
"Listen, Cyclops, you should know by now that nothing can stop the Juggernaut!!"
Mad with power I start rushing at Cyclops, who is still on the floor but raises his head in defiance. He fires an optic blast at my face to stop me, but literally nothing can. Ever since I've obtained the crimson gem of Cyttorak, whenever I pick up traction in any direction it becomes virtually impossible to stop me. The red energy of the optic blast reflects off my helmet and shoots impotently into the blue sky. I run now at full speed, ready to stomp the annoying Cyclops beneath my heavy boots. Suddenly, I hear a voice:
"Cain Marko... Stop..."
Soft, angelic... I halt in my deathly rush and stand in the middle of the avenue. I look around. The voice doesn't seem to come from anywhere! Nobody is speaking! What is this?
"Cain Marko... Why don't you stop for a moment and think about what you're doing here."
The voice again! I look at Cyclops and see him smiling as he is looking upward. What's that little snot laughing about?! I follow his gaze to the sky and there she is: Like a divine being the redheaded woman descends down, floating gently towards me. Even though awestruck by her grace and beauty, I catch myself and shout at her:
"Jean Grey! If you don't want to join your husband face down on the concrete, you better float away!"
Instead of backing off, the redhead only smiles gently. I again shout:
"What are you smiling at, huh?! See this here helmet? None of your telepathic mumbo jumbo works on me when I wear this, sister! Try anyway you want, you're not entering the mind of the Juggernaut!"
"Cain Marko... I don't need to enter your mind. I'm already there."
I hear her speak these words but her lips are not moving. What is this?! How is she already... My fingers glide across my helmet and find a small crack in the metal. My eyes dart over at the victoriously laughing Cyclops. It must have been that optic blast I took earlier... There's a chink in my anti-telepathic helmet, which means...
"Which means that this childish rampage is over. After all, there is something that can stop the Juggernaut: His own thoughts."
Jean Grey floats right in front of my face now and I cannot move a muscle to stop her. She places a soft hand on my cheeks, then the angelic voice in my head fills me completely:
"Why don't you go to sleep now, Cain Marko? Later, we can talk it all over once you've calmed down a bit..."

After a longer time of absence, here's another fanart piece featuring my favourite Marvel Comics lady: Jean Grey!
Why do I love Jean? Because she is and she should be Marvel's first and foremost leading lady. From the very start under Lee and Kirby they crafted in Jean a female character who could hold her own in a world of boys. As she stood her ground amongst the likes of Cyclops, Iceman, Angel and Beast, Jean Grey not only showed the ferocity and raw power of her potent mixture of telepathy and telekinesis, she also revealed a strong humanitarian sense for justice, respect and equality. I'd argue that there is not a single other woman in the Marvel Comics Universe who would prioritize peaceful communication over raw violence as much as Jean does. Also, she has a terrible fashion sense (look at her first re-designs for the X-Men uniforms!), which is something I find very cute. And I love that they just stuck with it throughout her comic book career XD
With a fantastic powerset, a charming personality and a strong, gentle and dignified mindset, Jean Grey should have become Marvel Comic's most important leading lady, but unfortunately, things happened and authors and editorials happened and for a long while she became this ridiculous, objectified boon character defined mostly by the Phoenix Force. Another comic book woman whom male characters fought about and who would get killed (fridged before it was cool!), then resurrected, then killed and then resurrected again. I'd argue the last time that Jean Grey was allowed to shine on her own, because of her personality and wit, was in Tom Taylor's fantastic X-Men Red run from 2018! And recently in comics they've gone and killed her again... Great...
Sorry for the rant, my love for Jean just took over my fingers for a second there! I also apologize for being late with this piece! The X-Men The Animated Series revival has already premiered and I haven't even seen it yet! I hope it's as good as the trailer made it out to be. I will get to see it as soon as it is possible for me.
Anyway, this concludes my little sequence of pieces celebrating X-Men The Animated Series, one of the best and most poignant interpretations of a longrunning comic book series in television ever!
