If it's really true that Hans had a painful and terrible childhood like Elsa did, then I feel sorry for him in a way, even though I'm not justifying what he almost did to the two sisters. Maybe years back, Hans wanted to prove to his family that he can be a good king someday and earn the same respect as his older brothers, possibly isolating himself during those years in his room and other places where he felt free.
