"W-w---what is it...?"
Personality:
A bit of a recluse, Caleigh is not the type to interact with others. When made to talk to a group, or even a single person, Caleigh will have the tendency to stutter, usually a mumble of the sorts as she looks down. Although there are the case where she’ll start being a chatterbox, which is when the topic of technology is involved. She’ll tend to geek out, explaining everything from the microchips inside any device to the digital terms involving her online business of hacking. Other than that, she’s a bit of a scaredy cat. She'll tend to be rather cautious of people she's never met. Please don’t sneak up on her, she’ll jump ten feet in the air, shout, then run away at the speed of light. Her inability to tell whether a person is flirting or not causes her to be very naive, and most likely confused at whatever you’re trying to tell her. At a more serious topic, she’ll tend to be a bit deadpanned, a stoic expression on her face. Though such an expression is rare for the woman.
History:
Being born wealthy had its quirks. One, the most obvious benefit, was basically an eternal life. Two was never having to worry about a shortage of money. Besides, her father worked as a financial manager at a big time Infinitum. Caleigh’s parents were most likely past the hundred year marker when she was born, with an extra thousand or so in their arms. Being the youngest of ten, she was basically the runt of the litter. While her siblings excelled both academically and athletically, Cal didn’t have any of those special traits. In order to keep up the Garrett family appearance, they simply shut her off from the rest of the world. Harsh, right?
Not really. For the girl, that was the best thing that they could have done. Even at a young age, she was never really good with people. Being in a crowd would only embarrass her family name. And so, she spent her days locked up in her room, taking up online schooling as well as a little hobby known as hacking. Her parents would usually baby her to make up for having shut her off from outsiders. This meant that anything she wanted, she gets. For example, if the girl wanted five laptops she’d get five laptops. ...which is what she got.
Let’s fast forward a few more years, shall we? At seventy years old and counting, Caleigh was happily living her life in her own house, alone and forever in her room. Although a rich girl, she spending her time working with computer engineering, as well as HTML coding, website formatting, and all those fun stuff. She can do more than hacking, you know? Though, surprising enough, her father was soon caught embezzling time from the Infinitum he worked at. Perhaps he had gotten a bit too greedy.
Caleigh wasn’t really shocked. With slight curiosity of exactly how much time her oh-so-rich family had, she had hacked into the family’s bank account to take a simple glimpse. This resulted in her noticing the many withdrawals the man had done in the past hundred years or so. There was a steady pattern, a hundred hours each day. Sure, it didn’t seem that much of a withdrawal compared to how much total time the family had, but the little hacker girl knew something was up. Nonetheless, the family name was definitely spoiled now. With the amount of time stolen, most of which included the time he and his family had in their arms, Mr. Garrett was definitely going to be sent to jail.
Though instead of being sent to jail, he ran out of time. Literally. Before the officials could even get to the man, a group of individuals had robbed him of his leftover money, all the many thousands in his arm. The individuals called themselves “Time Men”. She heard some rumors that he had been secretly working for a certain rebellion group. With his abundance of money, Mr. Garrett “donated” some to those running out of it, which his explains his constant lack of presence at home. He was found, and therefore he was eliminated.
Sneaking her way to the place her father was last found, presumably a ghetto area, Caleigh did a little bit of snooping, in need of information. Her father was merely being the generous man he was; he couldn’t be working for some shady people! In the midst of all her thinking, the girl didn’t expect to bump into was a certain member of a certain rebellion. She literally bumped into him. A rather good looking member, if one might say. Her appearance, having worn a neat pale purple dress with her hair in a lovely braid, simply screamed ‘rich kid’. Which, of course, piqued interest in the member.
Just as Caleigh was about to escape from the sudden stranger she bumped into, the man had grabbed ahold of her, taking the woman to a nearby alleyway that seemed to be far off from people, or more specifically, eavesdropping ears. He questioned why the girl was in such a dirty old area when she has a much nicer, suitable environment in Greenwich. She kept her mouth zipped. Even if she were a rather naive girl, something about this person didn't seem right. Perhaps it was the eerie smile the stranger had on his face or the white clothing that he wore.
The man looked at her, the curiosity clearly seen in his eyes. He casually changed the topic, asking the girl if she's heard of a group called "Zeitlos", a rebellion per se. He then continues on to tell her that one of their members, a rather rich man who donated as much time as he can, had died not too long ago. He then asks if she's heard of him. She didn't answer. With a small smile, he continued talking about "Zeitlos". How it carries on the legacy of Will and Sylvia, how they give freedom and justice to all deprived from their own human rights.
“W--w-what a load of rubbish! I-i--i--isn’t that the Timekeeper’s job?! T--t-to protect the people?”
Such is the words of an ignorant rich kid. Though all seventy years of her long long life she had not heard such things before. Of course, she’d come upon some online articles about it, though merely brushed it off as rubbish as well. At least, rubbish according to her mother’s words. She hadn’t expected to hear such words about the government’s so-called corruption. A shallow sigh was let out by her.
“Join us… and we’ll show you the world’s true colors.”
Such is the offer of the man. He extended his hand out towards the girl, a malevolent glint in his eyes. Caleigh tugged at the bottom of her dress, looking down at the ground just as it started to drizzle. She turned her gaze back towards the man, opening her mouth to tell him: I--I’ll think about it! As that was said, she turned her heels and started running. Away from the man. Out of the ghetto. Back to home. Back to her safe safe oh so safe room. Though, she decided to visit the family residence to ask a few questions. To make sure that this talk of corruption was false. That it was just some propaganda or something.
What welcomed her was the sight of the household set aflame. Screams could be heard emanating from the broken windows all around. Caleigh’s eyesight wasn’t all that well due to her being cooped up in front of a computer screen most days, but she could vaguely see the figure of a woman, her mother, being shot. Just like that. The stranger didn’t even take her time! She gasped sharply, the stranger was now looking at her! There was no hesitation as she ran back from where she came from. Though her gaze caught sight of the color white, the sort of clothes that the Timekeepers wore. The same sort of clothes that the man she had met wore.
“S--something isn't right...”
With nowhere to go, she ran back to the ghettos, specifically to the man who didn't seem to have budged from the spot where she last saw him. He didn’t seem all that fazed when she came running back, as if expecting something to had happened to her family. She stopped running before she could get any closer to him. The man, once again, held his hand out towards her, offering to show her the truth that Zeitlos speaks of. She squinted her eyes at him, feeling rather wary.
"Come on, Caleigh."
...Wait. How did he know her name. The girl doesn't recall ever telling the man her name. This sent off warning signals in her head. She slowly backed up, letting out the small murmur of: I--I-I have to go. Casually turning around, she didn't have time to react to the click of a gun, the barrel right up to the back of her head. He muttered a small yet rather fake apology, saying that traitors of the government needed to be eliminated. This was it. This is the end. She squeezed her eyes shut, expecting to hear a loud bang anytime soon.
Instead, she hears the sound of a body hitting the ground, as well as the voice of a woman asking her if she was alright. A brunette with two different colored eyes, a stranger going by the name Harumi Yamada, stood holding a crowbar right where the man should have been. Ah, it seems that the man had been knocked unconscious from behind by the woman. Filled with gratitude, Caleigh immediately went up to the woman to give her a large embrace. Harumi merely patted the girl on the head, then led her back to her own abode.
There she introduced Caleigh to the true Zeitlos Rebellion. There they explained to her their true intentions. That is the moment in which Cal decided to join, to at least contribute to the project. She realized how messed up the system was, and deep inside, we wanted things to change. For the better.
