"It's that time of the year again, eh?" Harada's comment was on everyone's minds, "The cherry blossoms are about to bloom... Ne, Hijikata. Isn't there a showing tonight for cherry blossom viewing?"

"Ah, yeah you're right. There is one tonight, but you're not going to skip rounds to watch them bloom, are you Harada?" The Demon Officer glares at Harada intimidatingly.

Scratching the side of his cheek with one finger, Harada nervously replies, "W-well... I was thinking about _____-chan. She's been with us for a while, hasn't she? I think she deserves to go watch the cherry blossoms."

Everyone in the room turns their gazes onto you. Your eyes shot wide from all the staring and you feel your palms start to sweat. It's true you want to see the trees bloom, but you didn't want to trouble anyone to go along with you. If anything, you were fine with just staying at the headquarters and continue chore work.

"You have been here for one whole year." Hijikata crosses his arms, "Well... I suppose I could let you go, but not without someone going along with you."

"I will do it, lieutenant." Saito volunteers almost immediately. Now this time, all eyes fell onto him in shock.

Blinking a few times, Hijikata scratches his head, "Are you sure Saito? Don't you have a stakeout at Shimabara?"

"Yamazaki spoke to me about him wanting the job. I simply desire for his wish to become a reality."

"There you have it _____!" Heisuke pats your back with too much force, you nearly fall forward. "You can go cherry blossom viewing with Saito-kun! Have fun in town!"

Nervous, you smile at Heisuke, "Th-thanks Heisuke-kun..."

In the town of Mibu, you stroll through the streets with Saito to the town square. The round moon shines brilliantly in the dark night sky as the frigid wind blows through. You clutch onto your arms, hugging yourself instinctively from the biting wind. Then you feel something soft being wrapped around your neck. Looking over your shoulder, you see Saito carefully wrapping his long white scarf around you.

Your cheeks begin to redden as you turn to face him, "S-Saito-kun! Y-you didn't have to--"

"If you were to freeze, I would fail my task of watching over you." Once he finishes securing his scarf on you, he smiles, "Be careful."

Nodding your head, you feel the warmth of the scarf and could still smell his scent. His scarf smells exactly like him.

"Let's go _____." After taking a few steps, Saito pauses in realization. He nervously coughs as he turns to you, offering his hand, "You may hold my hand in any case if we were to separate."

From the dim lights, you could barely hint the blush on his face. Could it be? The usual stoic Captain of the Third Division is blushing! You couldn't fathom the thought of him actually blushing. Once you recollected yourself, you take his hand and feel your face turn to a million shades of red.

"Thank you... Saito-kun..."

On the way to the town square, your hands remain in the same position. Passersby would often gossip to each other about how cute the two of you look. This made both of you as red as tomatoes. Saito kept his gaze to the ground while you hide your face within his scarf.

The townspeople continue to talk amongst themselves, "They're such a shy couple."

"It's so cute how shy they both are."

"I wish I had a boyfriend like that..."

The road to the town square felt never ending. Despite all the talk, you really wish that this road could stretch forever. Hand-in-hand with Saito, wearing his soft and white scarf, embracing the scent of him on you, you wonder if this was a dream or not. If you were dreaming, you wish to never wake up from this bliss.

"We're here." Saito's voice breaks your thoughts.

Raising your head, you see the cherry blossoms blooming beautifully. The many small pink petals sways along with the cold breeze. From the darkness of the night, the trees shine with their pastel pink petals. Some ride with the wind and lands in your hair. The townspeople gather around the marvelous trees, socializing, and enjoying themselves. Children chase each other with toys and pets remain by their owner's side. The town square became bustling in vivacious energy as the cherry blossoms decorate the space.

"So beautiful..." Your jaw drops in awe of the delicacy of nature.

Smiling gently, Saito takes a step towards you and touches your hair. He holds a few cherry blossom petals in his hand, "You had these petals in your hair... Let's explore the square together _____."

This time, you return the genuine smile and nod excitedly, "Yeah!" Without warning, you dash ahead with Saito's hand still in yours, pulling him along. His eyes widen in surprise at first, but after seeing your warm smile, he couldn't help but grin.

Viewing the cherry blossoms bloom only happens once a year during spring. For next year, Saito promises to take you again to watch the trees blossom. Hearing his promise, you couldn't wait for next year.
