Description
Hand-drawn in pencil.Inspired by Tim Burton, obviously. I got the idea to do something like this based on the stories in The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy and Other Stories by Tim Burton.
I'm making a Photoshop-coloured version of this.
Yes, I've gone back to doing drawings, and I'm trying to experiment with different styles and improve my skills for when I go to art college.

It does remind me of Billy's Balloon.
Anyway, this is a funny, yet tragic picture. Personally, I don't think you should color it. I think it's fine in black and white, the way you have it. Your balloons look a little square-ish. Other than that, it made me laugh, even it is sad.
I never heard of that story that gave you the inspiration. I'm not surprised Tim Burton wrote it based on the artwork. When did he write it?

The balloons weren't supposed to be perfectly shaped, actually. I wanted that sense of awkwardness in the drawing, which is why the head, hair, and plants aren't perfectly smooth in line and shape either...they're rather wonky too, like the balloons.
Anyway.....I don't know when he wrote it, but it's one of my favourite books so I'd recommend you look for it at some book store! =]

This is actually quite a clever little concept. I find it delicious that playful joy, while soothing us with complacency, might be working paradoxically through some unseen rumination of malicious fate to strangle our leisure with pleasure. I very much like it.
And in other news, my cat purrs FAR too loudly...can barely here myself type.

I never saw it that way, so that's a very interesting perception of yours! My concept was a bit more simple than that, with the general idea that tragedy and misfortune, or a negative result, can occur at any time and in any circumstance, regardless of how innocent or pleasant a moment may be...so I guess it's a pretty similar idea to yours.
