Colors to the Ziqits, Lorn's people, are very important, holding deep ties into the culture in forms of superstition and beliefs. They don't have a set 'deity', although passed ancestors seem to replace that to some degree. And seem to almost worship colors, found in nature, found in 'each other', etc.
However, dark blues, blacks, turquoises and gold/silver metals were big 'no no's for dress. These meant death, criminals, and just overall pure bad. (Depending the colors paired with these, messages would differ)
When Lorn took up making his own clothing long after he was banished; he used color freely - with little regard to anything he was taught in childhood.
This not only allows a type of control for him, but also is a form of bitter mockery to the ways he was pushed away from. Abeit by his own actions, but never the less; that deep connection to such a tightly knit culture cannot be escaped fully, not matter how much he tries.
