Oh yeah! I watched that movie the other day. Did you know they added a stupid musical number in the new re-release? UGH! I hated it. It completely took me out of the story and had absolutely nothing to do with anything. The lion king did the same thing, but it was even worse so I think they took it out after much uproar about it.

the only thing i liked about that added beauty and the beast scene was the transition back to the original...with the water....that was pretty nice to tie it in.
the lion king one was pretty rotten though...you are irght

Agreed. I think they blended it in well, but it still didn't need to be there. The subject of the song itself was overkill of a topic that was VERY CLEAR throughout the whole film. Everyone wanted to be human again. We get it. We don't need a song about it, the entire movie was already dripping with it.

and the morning report in the lion king?? OMG dont even get me started. That song completely RUINED what I thought was a very touching scene in the movie, which was Mufasa teaching Simba how to pounce. That worked SO much better.

absolutely! Both really deviated from the themes of those films. I give major props to the people who originally omitted those scenes from the films !

don't get me started on disney...i'll talk your ears off...i know way to much about way too much

We could totally gab on about disney stuff all day long I have no problems about that. My wife and I both used to work for disney, and unlike her, I actually enjoyed it! I love the Disney of high-quality of innovation. Not the disney of constant sequels to films that shouldn't have sequels. I agree with what you said about giving props to the original directors who decided to cut them out because THAT was the time when QUALITY disney movies were being made. Stuff that won awards.

I like where Disney is going now. Back to their roots. Innovating but keeping the quality. Have you seen the new mickey cartoons on youtube? HILARIOUS! The animation is so great and quick made for a modern audience with a healthy serving of old school style.

what>?!?! you've been holding out on me...you worked for them ! jealous!Β

I have been in a very anti-disney mindset until Frozen....I have been super disappointed in lasseter's decisions up to now, but it looks like they are indeed returning to their roots!

I have seen the new mickey cartoons, but i'm little turned off by all the slapstick of it. Even their award winning "get a horse" toon seemed to just be a nonstop Pete gets hurt on repeat...which is hilarious to us adults...but i don't know if I someday want my children to see the adorable Mickey and Minnie continuously hitting someone for fun you know? I do like teh almost "Epic Mickey" style to it though.

I feel like a lot of their recent films play off today's not so nice thinking too. Take wreck it Ralph for example....I love that film so much, but I really felt they pushed the little girl vanelope's character too much making her rather rude....when she's supposed to be the underdog.Β

I'm all for a great and evil terrible villain, but when the heroes start making bad choices...it really takes away from the story arc if done incorrectly

Someday I hope to either work for the company and try to put back a little old school principles...OR start my own studio entirely big dreams I know!

When I say I "worked" there, I mean I worked the themed park as a busboy or cleaning the streets and directing people to places. But I enjoyed my time there because, generally, the people that went to the parks were happy! Or if not, they were happy when you were happy at them which was nice.

I liked frozen, but I dont understand what all the hullabaloo is all about. I mean it wasn't THAT great. The storyline was as transparent as can be. I'm not saying I didn't like it, but I'm not sure I'd give it all the praise that it's getting everywhere. BUT thats just my opinion. It's still a helluva lot better than some of the other recent Disney movies that have come out.

I actually liked the "Get a horse" cartoon. I thought it was an amazing blend of old school and modern school. I mean, you are totally justified about the "violence" toward Pete, but I've recently watched some of the old mickey cartoons with my son on netflix and you should SEE some of the violence there. Not just violence, I mean the one with mickey and the giant (there are several, but one in particular) has the giant LITERALLY grabbing a bundle of hay, rolling it up into a cigarette and smoking it with mickey inside. Hmmm....

I also liked Wreck it Ralph. I mean I REALLY liked it. In fact, sometimes I'll rewatch it just because. Yes, its kind of a boys/gamers movie so not everyone will like it. I think I'd disagree about vanelope however. I didnt see her as rude in the movie. She maybe was a little rough around the edges, but she's gone through a lot! (Spoilers for anyone reading) She's been nearly completely erased from the code and her memory wiped, picked on and abused and she lives in a dump. I thought Ralphs and Vanelope's relationship was really cute!

Also, heros make bad choices all the time. I mean thats how the story line moves forward typically. It's really hard to have an infallible hero especially since no one is perfect. Thats what makes them easy to connect with, their flaws. Their mistakes. By the way, what mistake were you referring to?

OH MAN I told you we could go on for a hella long time about this.

whether you worked in the studio on on the streets at the theme park...i'm still incredibly jealous

I agree about Frozen completely...i seriously did feel the storyline was a bit rushed and the trolls as cute as they were, were totally random I think like myself, everyone loves it because like you said....everything prior for awhile has been kind of weak in the disney song and dance department

and Yes! "get a horse" was marvelous in a technical sense...I thought it was genius how they combined it for sure...I only meant i didn't like Mickey...and especially Minnie being the violent one... though the cactus was hilarious haha

I do remember that mickey short...but again that was the giant aka villain being off color...which is understandable, but you're right

as for wreck it ralph...don't get me wrong at all...it's one of my favorites too...especially since I'm a total gamer girl ! I just wish they hadn't made venelope be SO rough around her edges....like at one point i believe she yells at ralph about the rolls of his neck fat or something .... I was like what?! LOL I would get if the other candy racers were throwin insults, but I liked vanelope and didn't want to see her being a bit of a bully. Ralph was a great character though...I hear they are planning a sequel.

and yah I like troubled heroes too....just not too troubled so if they are likable my little brother repeats their funny insults

Don't worry about ever having a different opinion or offending me at all...i'm seriously the most easy going gal I know hahaha and I can go on forever about anything like this. It's so good hearing passionate opinions !

so I gotta know.....favorite animated film and why? even outside the disneyverse....

OK I'll keep this short.
-Disney job: It was nice while it lasted, but it's too bad that other workers were so lame about the "being happy" bit. Yes it can be forced, but thats what makes the parks so great!
-Frozen comments: Agreed. Rock Trolls? Wtf?
-Get a Horse: I see what you mean, but the good guys are also kicking butt in the other cartoons too. Maybe it was a bit much, but it didn't feel out of place at all to me.
-Wreck it Ralph: HEE HEE.. yeah that comment was a bit nasty. That hurt even ME especially since at one point I actually HAD fat folds..... ok I still do, but thats not the point. I get what you're saying about that. I kinda liked her sassiness tho. One thing to which kinda bothered me, the voice actress the picked sounds like she smokes... just sayin.
-Heros: yes. and hilarious.
-Answer to question: Thats a hard question to ask because I like so many animated films for different reasons. Right now, I'd say maybe Monsters University. I know that just came out, but I cant stop watching it! but thats not really my fave because I can't have a fave. There are too many. :/ sorry lame answer, but yeah.

hahaha...speaking of books..i finally picked a series to read....I started Divergent! Saw the film last weekend and really liked it...have you seen it? I'd love to hear your thoughts

mlsterben In reply to Miss-Melis [2014-04-04 15:24:34 +0000 UTC]

There's a story. So my roommate, his mom, and two of my friends all were going to see Divergent and I tagged along. Only I didn't tag along to see Divergent: I wanted to go see Muppets Most Wanted. They gave me all kinds of crap for going to a different movie, but based on everything I had seen, read, heard, smelled, etc. the movie did not look very enticing. According to the interwebs, it was a generic YA dystopia story. I didn't want none of that. So I saw the Muppets.

My movie let out much sooner than theirs, and when they emerged one asked if it was awful. I said no, it was great, and asked how Divergent was. Each and every one of them hated it.

So that reaction, combined with the interwebs, made me not want to see or read it. (Though everybody says the book is better. )
