Description Hello! I've never done Perler bead sprites before, even though I really admire the stuff that I've seen others do, but at Wal-Mart the other night, I bought a big bucket of them for 10 bucks and decided to try and do a beaded version of the character select screen from the Neo Geo Pocket game SNK Gals Fighter. (This, of course, is what all sane people think when they see a bucket of beads.) So far, I only have the characters selectable from the start done, but I figured that it was as much worth posting as anything else in my gallery.
Picking all of the color schemes for this was fun, but for Yuri, something went pretty wrong. My sister, , took this photo and worked really hard to make sure she was visible, something that my scanner and its inability to read neon colors couldn't do. I might redo her the next time that I make beaded stuff.

Anyway, with all of that yabbering done, here's the characters included here with a select gameography.
Top Row (left to right): Mai (King of Fighters, Fatal Fury), Yuri (King of Fighters, Art of Fighting), Athena (every game SNK can reasonably jam her into), Leona (King of Fighters)
Bottom Row: Nakoruru (Samurai Shodown), Shermie (King of Fighters), Shiki (Samurai Shodown), Akari (The Last Blade)

I can't believe how lucky it was that the default square pegboard was the absolute perfect size to make these portraits!

Thank you! She was one of my favorites from this set, too, though the only one I was really irritated with in the end was Yuri's.

Holy awesomes!
You got the big bucket o' beads, eh? Tell me... was sorting the colors not an epic pain in the ass?

Thank you! I did get the big bucket of beads, but I actually never sorted it, even after pouring in a refill and doing a couple more projects. It didn't make things *that* difficult, except for when I was working on the skin with a 29x29 portrait tile of Lilly Kane (from the SNK fighters, not Veronica Mars), but I sort of like digging through the bucket for the colors as I got. The beads smell a little like fish, but other than that, it seems fine to me.

Maybe I'm being too rigid then. Cuz, MAN I have trouble finding colors in that big mess. I'm working on a Decepticon symbol...er... perler thing, and having a heck of a time picking out purples. :\

Oh, no, I don't think you're being too rigid at all- it's more that I'm being lazy. XD I can see the advantages of sorting things really clearly, and have been told about it by more than one person, but I just haven't done it yet. I think that the perception things that go on while looking for the beads are really strange, though! I can never see the beads I need while I'm searching for them, but then when I'm off to the next color, I see piles and piles of the one I just finished going after.

Oh, Missy. Isn't funny how crafty minds think alike? I've just bought a Perler bead starter kit from dickblick.com maybe 2 weeks ago. I have yet to touch it though. I can't wait to get started. Was it hard? I'm kinda excited that it won't take as long as cross stitching. Nice job!

That is pretty funny! I didn't have a starter kit, though (just a Wal-Mart bucket where all the beads smelled like bad sushi), so I'm a little jealous. XD It's not hard at all, though, and *so* fast! Even with ironing, each of these took about 45 minutes to complete, so I had it done in no time at all. What sort of project are you thinking of doing? I'm considering using mine as coasters so that I can go, "Oh, wait, don't put your soda there! Slam it on this Fatal Fury character's face!"

Sorry this is so late! I've been trapped in FarmVille.
Those beads do smell a little funky. Believe me, the kit is not all that. It does come with several of the templates that hold the beads. I'm kinda getting discouraged with the sorting and may resort to buying bags of single colors. I'm still trying to decide what to make. It's probably gonna be Mario related.
I wish you and your family a healthy and prosperous new year!

Happy new year to you and your family, too! ^^ Aside from the weather, it's going great so far. If you're trying to sort the colors, you're using way more advanced techniques than I did. XD I just got to a new character and looked into the bucket until I determined what colors looked like they might work for the square. Yours'll probably be a lot more organized and easier to make because of that, though. If you have to find the single colors, best of luck! ^^

Thanks! I'm totally on the hunt for those single colors. The new semester is starting this week and I will have very little spare time for my crafting which is so sad. I have to cut corners as much as possible!

Thank you! It was really fun to do this, and I probably will again, but still, I don't think it'll be a replacement for stitching. I love how big the finished project is and how fast it is to get there, though.

Awesome stuff!

You'll need to buy another bucket so you can get the hidden characters in there.

Thank you! I think I have enough beads for the last four blocks, but I'm a little iffy on what color schemes to use. I'm betting I'll think of something, though.
