that's the perfect way to describe these old Toyotas or Japanese Muscle car because of the whole Mustang motif with the fastback model from '75 to '77,albeit it didn't have a V8 but it was still nimble with the truck engine in the US model.

indeed, these caught my eye a bit more than most Muscle cars and Exotic cars in car shows, whether it be an old Opel Kadett to a early 70's Toyota Celica like this one,its a damn shame that Toyota has gone off the deep end and are now making "Appliances" instead of real cars nowdays.

true, Toyota used to make some interesting rides and now they make cheap stuff for the masses. econ rides are good but we need something to make driving a gas instead of a bore. snore rides don't turn heads - sexy ones do

this is definately one of the sexy ones, the first gen Celicas were always great cars, and the Fastback ones from 75' to 77' were nicknamed "the Japanese Mustang" because of the rear lights and overall shape.

seeing that the cars would be unibody construction, I hope you can find a rust free one to start with as sheet metal might be problem to get and the motor could be replaced with something a little more powerful and make a sleeper out of it

i know an uncle who is a body repairman and parts are a little tedious to find compared to let's say a 1970's Camaro or a Mercedes Benz from that same era. but you can find them if you know where to look. engine wise, a Chevrolet v8 engine might do the trick, preferably a LS1 or LS2 off a Corvette although they are a tad played out in my opinion although they are proven powerhouses or a v6 off a Toyota Camry with a TRD Supercharger to trully stand out, the donor car itself is boring but the engine in a smaller car would be beastly.

engine wise a Chevy 350 is a good bet because they are the cheapest to build for parts and they have proven themselves over years and are the hotrodder's choice to make their crates go, my cousin had a Monty Carlo boat with one in it and it went like a bat out of hades

those Mustangs were terrible indeed,i mean the Pinto itself was infamous for blowing itself up if it crashed,it wasn't until they made the Foxbody when they decided to be themselves again.indeed, the Celica was the better pony car in that time, not to mention it was insanely reliable as well, the 22R truck engine in the US models was literally bulletproof,a friend of mine told me they tried to kill one with Antifreeze and it still ran.

I like the first gen Celica. Too bad they don't make them like that anymore. The Scion Tc is a snooze box.

tell me about it,i've seen one of those TC's and there was nothing good about it much, its more of a marketing gimmick to get old people to buy them.

You hit the nail on the head. Scion was supposed to be a way for Toyota to hook younger buyers into buying one of their brands but most of the people I see driving Scions are middle age people who seem to be trying to show they are still "hip". To me the Tc is a pretend sports car. It's basically a two door Corolla with a Camry 4cyl engine.....SNOOZE!

it would've worked better if it had a Turbocharger and optional All wheel drive, kind of a spiritual sucessor to the the Celica GT-Fours of the 80's and 90's or Alltrak as it was known in the States but alas,Toyota doesn't do sports cars anymore(the LF-A doesn't count since its out of most people's price range)they have the passion, but they need to wake up and smell the coffee, econoboxes are good but Sports coupes are better also they need to stop with the cost cutting.

i was actually raised on Muscle cars,Supercars(back when they were relevant) and Hot Rods until i moved onto Import cars back in 2000(not the Fast and the Furious ones but REAL ones that could go fast in the track and look good as well)when people were into Honda Civics,i was into the Mitsubishi,Nissan,Subaru and Toyota crowds.although we can't deny Muscle cars are one of a kind.
