TOISU!!!!

Behold! The greatest new wave rock band to ever grace this planet with their presence. POLYSICS!

Presenting Fumi on bass and vocals, Yano on drums, Hiro on vocals and guitar and Kayo on vocals, synth, recorder, and pompoms.

I originally hadn't planned to do much with this. It started as a basic sketch of each member as I was getting psyched to go to their show here in Toronto last November (which f*ckin' ROCKED, by the way.) I saw the sketch and started to work on it in Adobe Illustrator. At first, I simply wanted to prove that I could still vector with ease. It then turned into an obsession to represent the band at their best.

Note: The following is just a POLY-addict's mindless babble about details

Hiro's La Baye 2x4 is directly taken from their Electric Surfin' Go Go PV and it took ages to build in Illustrator. I used a few sources online as a reference so I could nail the look of his one-of-a-kind guit-box. I spent hours making sure the frets were spaced correctly, the strings were proper gauges and that it just looked like Hiro's. It was tedious to make, but in the end , I was more than satisfied with the results as I now have a vector of Hiro's f*ckin' 2x4. (Minus the strap... *laughs*)

I was lazy with Kayo's synth setup and I didn't reference anything for her control board. I know it's strange how it's just floating there, but I didn't want to obstruct the view of the original purpose for the fan art, the band members themselves.

The same applies to Yano's floating snare. As a drummer, I felt the urge to build his entire kit around him, using photos I took from the live. But then I thought it was kind of sad that during the performance, he was hidden away in the back behind his shells and skins. for this reason, I omitted the rest of his kit, gave him something basic to beat on and allowed more of the yoga-lovin' bastard to be seen.

Fumi was tricky to do. I wanted to detail her red Yamaha SBV bass as much as I did to Hiro's 2x4, but my sketch has her posed at a strange angle so I had to illustrate it accordingly. Again, I used references online and spent almost as much time building her bass as I did to Hiro. I even looked at a photo I took of her at the live to match the position of her tuning lugs.

I arranged them as one would see them on stage at the live. In this sense, their set up is consistent around the world. During the live I went to, I stood right in front of Fumi. The show before that, I was in front of Kayo. This is how they've always been.

Annnnnnd some other notes I'd like to make:

- Their uniforms and badges are the same as what I saw at the show.
- Their hairdos are from a promo image from the We Ate The Machine era.
- I have no idea what chord Hiro is holding.
- I also have no clue where his (and Fumi's) guitar strap is.
- I know Fumi's hair is dyed, but I was going for a look here.
- If any music experts see and imperfections anywhere, don't judge me too harshly. I'm a drummer. I don't have an expansive knowledge about other instruments like you do... Plus, we drummers are supposed to be dumb, right? [EDIT: This line is meant to be said jokingly. I should've added an "lol" or something. I suppose some won't get it. Many drummers give guitarists a run for their money and put bassists to shame! *laughs* (<--also a joke)]

Well, if you're a POLYSICS fan or not, I'd love to hear any thoughts about this piece. I'm ridiculously proud of it. I'm probably going to print it out on tabloid paper (the original working document size for this piece) and put it up somewhere. Hopefully, I've done the band justice and have appropriately captured each band member's individual persona in this little tribute to them. Let me know what you think!

I assure you, if you're a fan of full throttle new wave rock, absurd Japanese/Engrish/Space language lyrics, jumpsuits and endless f*ckin' energy, you will NOT be disappointed.
